  • Creative Confidence: Boys' Day Hat-Making Experience!

    Funded Feb 10, 2025

I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity in supporting our Boys' Day hat-making project! Because of you, my fourth-grade students will have the opportunity to engage in a creative, hands-on experience that will not only celebrate this special occasion but also build their confidence and teamwork skills.

This project is particularly meaningful because it allows my students to take pride in creating something that is uniquely their own. The blank hats you helped provide will serve as a canvas for their creativity, giving them the freedom to express their personalities and interests in a tangible way. The iron-on patches will add an extra layer of excitement, allowing students to choose designs that resonate with them—whether it's a symbol of their favorite hobby, a cultural emblem, or an inspiring message that boosts their confidence.

One of the most exciting additions to our classroom, thanks to your generosity, is the hat heat press. This tool will give my students hands-on experience with a real-world crafting technique, helping them develop practical skills while ensuring their creations are durable and professional-looking. I can already imagine their joy and sense of accomplishment when they proudly wear their customized hats, knowing they designed and made them themselves!

The rolling craft cart will keep everything organized and accessible, making the activity smooth and enjoyable. Beyond this project, this cart will continue to be a valuable addition to our classroom, supporting future hands-on learning experiences. Your donation is not just helping with one activity—it is creating a lasting impact that will benefit my students throughout the year.

More than just an art project, this experience will foster creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression in my students. Many of them have never had the chance to design and create something like this before, and I know that the sense of pride they will feel when they put on their custom hats will stay with them for a long time. Celebrating Boys' Day in this unique and meaningful way will also help reinforce the importance of tradition, individuality, and craftsmanship, making this more than just a fun activity—it will be an experience they will always remember.

Your generosity has made all of this possible. Your support shows my students that there are people out there who believe in them, who want to nurture their creativity, and who recognize the importance of hands-on learning. Thank you for investing in their growth, confidence, and joy.

We are so excited to start this project, and I can't wait to share pictures and stories of the students' creations with you! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making this dream a reality for our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shinshiro

  • Celebrating Diversity: Colors of the World & Classroom Essentials

    Funded Feb 12, 2025

On behalf of my fourth-grade students, I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your kindness and generosity. Your support of our DonorsChoose project means the world to us, and I cannot wait to see the impact these supplies will have on my students' creativity, confidence, and learning.

The Crayola Colors of the World coloring supplies will be a game-changer in our classroom. Art is such a powerful form of self-expression, and with these crayons, markers, and colored pencils, my students will finally have the tools to create artwork that truly reflects who they are. Many of them have struggled in the past to find colors that represent their unique skin tones and those of their families. Now, they will be able to bring their self-portraits and cultural projects to life with accuracy and pride. This simple yet meaningful change will foster an even greater sense of belonging, appreciation for diversity, and celebration of our classroom community.

The storage containers you provided will help keep these precious materials organized and accessible. Having a designated space for our Colors of the World supplies ensures that they remain well cared for and readily available for students to use. Organization is key in an active, hands-on classroom, and your support has helped create a space where creativity can thrive without chaos.

In addition to these art supplies, the classroom essentials—the paper cutter, clear tape, pencils, paper clips, and cardstock—will allow our daily learning experiences to run smoothly. Whether we are working on writing projects, assembling student portfolios, or creating beautiful classroom displays, these tools will make all the difference in keeping our materials structured and our ideas flowing.

Your generosity goes beyond just providing supplies; you have given my students the opportunity to feel seen, valued, and empowered. Every time they pick up a Colors of the World crayon to draw themselves, or use a pencil to write a story, they will be reminded that there are people like you who believe in them and want to see them succeed.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. Your kindness has left a lasting imprint on our classroom, and we are so grateful for the impact you have made on our learning and creative expression.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shinshiro

  • Grow, Learn, and Share: Herb Gardens for Families

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

Beyond the classroom, this project extends into students' homes, allowing them to share their learning with their families. The herbs they grow will provide a meaningful way for families to connect through cooking and gardening, strengthening family bonds and reinforcing the value of fresh, homegrown food. By providing my students with the resources to cultivate their own small gardens, this project will empower them with knowledge and skills they can carry into the future, fostering a lifelong appreciation for nature, sustainability, and healthy eating.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Shinshiro

Today, teaching means preparing our students for jobs that do not even exist yet. The traditional job markets are evolving and becoming very technology-driven and dependent. Industries outside of technology such as: finance, manufacturing, health care, information technology (IT), data analyst, artistry and design, and engineering now have job demands with computer coding skills. This shift has made coding a core skill for our students to be successful in their future. In class my students have been exposed to a very basic level of coding using a free educational website. With these Dash and Dot robots my students will be able to make a physical connection of coding and begin their journey of robotics. Robotics is then offered as an extracurricular next year as a 5th grader, in intermediate, as well as at the high school and collegiate level here in Hilo. Please help me prepare my students for a successful and meaningful future.
