  • Middle School Engineering students Light Up the World!

    Funded Sep 28, 2020

I cannot express how excited I was to pack the breadboard kits to send home to my Middle School students.

Most of my students have never worked with any kind of circuits, and probably never seen or help a breadboard.

They are extremely excited and eager to receive these supplies at home, as we continue to teach in a 100% virtual learning environment.

My middle school students will learn basic circuitry as an introduction to a high school Digital Electronics course we hope to offer in the very near future.

Thank you for helping our students stay curious and engaged during these trying times.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sharma

  • Keeping the Hands-on Learning Going for My Budding Engineers!

    Funded May 28, 2020

The look on my high school engineering students' faces was priceless when I informed them that they had their own Arduino kits to work on Digital Electronics at home. We have been forced to continue teaching remotely, due to the pandemic and students are showing signs of screen fatigue.

When I ask students to remove a component from their kits to work on, I immediately see cameras turning on, and facing lighting up. Students still don't get the workplace experience of collaborating in-person, but they do get to work in groups virtually, as they have the same materials.

Thank you for your generosity and continued support to Mrs. Sharma's Engineering Projects on DonorsChoose!”

  • Microbits for Future Programmers!

    Funded May 28, 2020

It has been such a relief to get the Microbits for my middle school students. We are in the process of completing our Design and Modeling unit, where students are learning about the Engineering Design Process by building prototypes to solve a problem. We are now moving into sketching and 3D modeling.

Students are eagerly waiting for our next module, 'Computer Science for Innovators and Makes' . This is where they get to learn about computer science, using block based programming in conjunction with some digital electronics, using the Microbits.

At the beginning of the next quarter (mid October), students will each receive a Microbit kit to take home. We will use these Microbits to work on several projects, giving students the hands-on experience of a STEM classroom, while continuing with a remote or hybrid school model.

Thank you all for your continued support to Mrs. Sharma's Engineering Projects on DonorsChoose!”

  • National Board Renewal!

    Funded Oct 21, 2019

As I begin working on my National Board Renewal, I am reminded of the rich and invigorating process I went through ten years ago. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Renewal, gives teachers a chance to reflect on their journey in the past ten years, and highlight how they have grown as teachers and made an impact on education.

Research has shown that teachers of National Board certified teachers learn more than their peers. National Board certified teachers are also likely to continue honing their skills through continued professional development and collaboration with teachers across the country.

I am excited to reflect on and share this journey with my students, peers, and the NBPTS.

Thank you for helping me get there!”

  • Building Bridges and Cars While Becoming Financially Literate! (Part 2)

    Funded Sep 28, 2019

Thank you so much for providing my students with an opportunity to explore the world of Engineering. The Makerspace materials I had requested were unavailable, so we ended up slightly modifying our project, resulting in a delay in project completion.

Nevertheless, the wait was worth it. The hot glue guns were provided as part of a starter kit to students and their families to continue exploring engineering at home. These materials not only provided students with hours of exploratory engineering in the school makerspace, but allowed them to continue these activities and explorations at home.

Students used supplementary materials like measuring tape, velcro, and painter's tape to use the design process to problem solve and build the most resilient structures. Supplies were also used for students to create cars that were battery powered. Students engineered the cars to run as fast as possible, within given criterion.

Thank you for your generosity and continued support.”

  • Popcorn, our way to see the World!

    Funded Oct 9, 2019

    What a great gift!

I cannot begin to express what a difference this popcorn maker has made to our school. This one simple machine has essentially created a feeling of community.

We have been able to use the popcorn machine for fundraising events on several occasions, as well as as an incentive for students. Our student council, basketball teams, and several after school clubs have requested to use the popcorn machine on several occasions.

We were able to raise funds for many groups/ occasions with the beginner popcorn kernels, butter, and bags we received. Students are now planning ahead to estimate costs and calculate profits for the next few months.

Thank you donors for your generosity and for investing in our students education!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sharma

  • Families that "Makerspace" Together Stay Together!

    Funded Oct 8, 2019

Our Family STEM Night was a huge success. Students, siblings, and parents, all participated in all the different centers. Families were particularly excited to take home the Makerspace Starter Kit. This kit included a hot glue gun, motors, batteries, a propeller, a base, LED lights, and other items to begin getting creative at home.

The Strawbees were a bit hit with students and parents alike. Another big hit was 3D pens. We saw all kinds of creativity come through, especially with the motors. Students created out-of-the-box vehicles, using the materials from this proposal.

We have enough supplies where we will probably be able to offer another Family STEAM Night in the Spring. Thank you all for your generosity.”

  • STEM Certification to Develop Financially Literate Students!

    Funded Jan 30, 2019

The STEM Certification has helped build my knowledge as an effective educator.

As I work my way through the National Certificate for STEM Teaching PD: Understanding the 15 STEM Teacher Actions from the NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR STEM EDUCATION, one of the things I am learning is how to better organize my room, to make resources readily available to students.

Several modules like the one mentioned above, will help me gain a deeper understanding of how to create the optimal learning environment. Taking courses like these also helps me be a better role model for my students. They appreciate the fact that I too am constantly leaning like I expect them to.”

  • Binder Supplies to Get Organized!

    Funded Jan 27, 2019

Thank you for helping my classroom get organized. The label maker has helped me organize and label binders and items in my classroom, as well as for the various afterschool clubs I help organize at my school.

The heavy duty 3-hole punch allows my students to punch multiple sheets, and organize their math and language arts binders. I am easily able to hole punch a class set of papers, using this tool.

Tools like binder tabs and binder clips have made it so much easier to provide my students with the basic tools to remain organized and save valuable instructional time. Thank you for helping my students.”

  • Tomorrow's Problem Solvers!

    Funded Mar 18, 2019

Makerspaces are wonderful safe places for students to unleash their creative side. The books I received through this grant have helped me think of many creative ways to engage students in Makerspace activities.

The additional books for 'Problem Solving' have been a great resource to help create and adapt projects for my classroom to facilitate problem solving and foster a collaborative learning environment.

I have also been able to share these resources with my colleagues to encourage a school wide environment to encourage problem solving skills.”
