  • Markers, Pencils, and Learning! Oh My!

    Funded Nov 12, 2024

Thank you for your generosity. We are soaring away with learning with supplies you provided.

My students have mastered 3 digit addition and subtraction by using the dry erase markers. They practiced spelling words, handwriting, and dictation sentences. All things making them better readers and writers.

My favorite part of this project is the presharpened pencils. What a simple, but meaningful thing in the classroom. My students are fairly responsible with their pencils, but I love being able to swap a well love tiny pencil for a brand new one. In my classroom I don't want to students worrying about I don't have a pencil. They just get the supplies they need to be successful, thanks to donors like you!”

  • Ninjas in Training SEL Ninja Hack Books

    Funded May 10, 2024

This year has flown by. It's hard to believe my students and I have already complete a quarter of the year together. We've accomplished so much. The books purchased from this project have been instrumental in building my classroom community. The ninja series by Mary Nhin touches on every social emotional need in the classroom. We talk about positive emotions everyone goes through and call those our ninja strength such as inclusive, sharing, and quiet ninja. Then we talk about those stressful emotions such as jealousy, anxiety, and loneliness to discuss how we can cope with these feelings.

Learning how to manage our emotions is a lifelong process, but it so important for us to be able to put these resources in the hands of our youngest learners.

THANK YOU for helping support our children.”

  • I've Got a Feeling! SEL Tools = Success

    Funded Dec 30, 2023

Wow, what an amazing project brought to life. My students and I just started reading the Ninja Series and we are channeling are inner superpowers. My students are excited to be as quiet, innovative, and compassionate as a ninja.

We drew pictures of ourselves as ninjas and are adding our ninja superpowers as icons. My students are walking on ninja toes, embracing their listening power, and learning to show empathy to others.

The Ninja books by Mary Nhin are amazing. It is a fun, kid friendly way to teach kids about the emotions we all feel. It is so important for students to feel their emotions and learn how to work through them. I can't wait to get more of the series.”

  • Doing Our Personal Best With Privacy Folders!

    Funded Dec 20, 2023

Due to your generous donations my classroom was able to receive a classroom set of privacy desk dividers. It's strange how such a small thing, such as privacy dividers, can mean so much to a student. The first day we pulled out the dividers my students were excited and full of amazement. "Wow, we all have the same folders." "Now I can work in peace." the kids called out. We have 25 students in our classroom, so quiet work time is a valued treat. Many of my students enjoy having that small piece of the room that is theirs alone.

My students take pride in taking care of our new dividers. At the end of a test, independent task, or writing assignment I assign detectives that ensure the dividers weren't written on or broken. Then the students safely return our dividers to the bin. They love being a detective and I'm happy to report that all the dividers are still in mint condition.

I can't wait to use these dividers for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Settelmaier

  • Letting Off Some Steam With Morning Bins!

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

It's been 2 months since the students received the STEM toys and bins. We continue to learn how to work collaboratively and share.

Each morning the students excitedly arrive at school to build and create. You should see the minds of these 2nd graders as they design new things. I've seen students work together to build a chimney for Santa, a castle tower for a princess, flowers, cars, lawn mowers, and so much more. Each day they are coming up with something new and so excited to show me there creations. More than just building, they are coming up with ways to work together and join designs. My classroom is filled with creative thinking and JOY.

It wouldn't be possible without amazing donors like you. These young 2nd grade minds need an outlet to build and explore with friends. This is exactly what we needed to start our school day off on the right foot. Thank you for your generosity.”

  • Give Me a R-e-a-d! Helping Kids Read, Read, Read!

    Funded Dec 19, 2022

My students have loved exploring phonics patterns with our Phonics stones. Students have been able to build new words and rhyming patterns using our taught patterns.

Students have practiced separating two syllable words using our letter beads. Separating syllables is a crucial skill for 2nd grade students as they learn how to read, write, build multi-syllabic words such as com-ic, mid-dle, and whi-stle.

My favorite part of this project is our construction paper organizers. These simple classroom tools allows my students easy access to a multitude of paper colors. They are making brochures about plants, crafts about kites, and research posters about famous people.

Thank you so much for helping provide meaningful materials to my students. Our classroom, our learning, our students future is better because of donors like you.”

  • On Your MARK, Get SET, CREATE! (markers and such)

    Funded Aug 24, 2022

You would be amazed by the phenomenal work happening in my second grade classroom. Thanks to your generosity my students were able to get markers, colored pencils, and crafting tools. Their work is coming alive with color.

So far this year, my students have made animal habitat dioramas, a pumpkin craft, and family trees. The students studied and researched an animal, then created beautiful dioramas to depict the animal's home. Student's read a story called The Pumpkin Picking Plan, then they wrote a story and decorated a paper pumpkin.

My students really enjoy showing their creativity in their work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping make learning fun.”

  • Do You HEAR What I HEAR? (Set of Classroom Headphone)

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

Within the last 18 months my 2nd graders have been tossed into a whirlwind trying to cope with a global pandemic and learning how to be a student. In March of 2020 my students were Kindergarteners learning how spell words using vowels and consonants tiles. They were building number sense by counting items and through explorative play. However, there most crucial learning years were cut short and they were made to learn through ipads instead of hands on explorative play. These same kids went to first grade with the fear of school shutdowns. Many students were taught the ins and outs of technology so that they have a fighting chance of succeeding at home learning.

Now my students are second graders. We get to see the kids in school. We get to help fill the gaps that they have. Your generous donation allowed my students to receive a classroom set of over the ear headphones. Now these tech-savvy 2nd graders are able to work independently on apps that meet them at their individual level, while I, their teacher, am working hands on with their peers to teach them skills they missed. You may think headphones are such a small piece of the puzzle, but they have allowed kids to gain some independence. The classroom set of headphones means all kids are working while teachers, interventionists, and support staff pull kids to small groups and teach each child.

Thank you for filling a need in my classroom. Thank you for supporting children in their most vital years.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Settelmaier

A document camera allows me to model math manipulatives, walk my students through the writing process, and display science experiments in real life. But so much more than that, a document camera allows my students to model their thinking to their peers. It provides students with an opportunity to teach others through their work samples. A document camera in the classroom can put real life tools and samples in the hands of my students, making them the guide for their own learning. My vision is having students at the document camera explaining the strategy they used to solve the math problem, proving what they learned in their science exploration, expanding on their written work as a model for peers. A document camera can help all kinds of learners: visual, linguistic, and kinesthetic.
