Exploring the World Through Digital Resources!!
Funded Dec 31, 2016I first would like to thank you all for caring enough to support our project. You all have made it possible for me to create global learners in my class. Some people would find it hard to believe that some children don't have access to technology and have never held a tablet in their hand...well, it is true. However, we are now able to explore the word through the technology. It has been amazing. My students are eager to jump on the tablet to research a project, play a game or increase their critical thinking ability through interactive games. It has brought about a change for my students during whole group and workstation time. Having the new technology in my class has allowed me to teach my students to explore the word in a different way. It has given me the ability to reach all my students. Some students are not just pen and paper...I have found ways to increase their desires to learn. I thank you all for that.”

Cuisenaire Rods: Math Manipulatives That Make Mountains Move!!

The Big Box Reveal....yes, I called it the big box reveal!!! I opened the box and began pulling material out. My students were super excited. They couldn't believe they were going to be able to have their own Cuisenaire Rods to use during guided practice and small group.
I begin to explain to them about Donors Choose and how people donate to classrooms to help out. They couldn't believe people would give to them yet not even know them. They were excited!
Guided Practice looks totally different now. Each one of my students are able to work independently. It's amazing how much this small token has changed my instruction with my students. They are able to freely explore fractions and adding and subtracting with Cuisenaire Rods. Cuisenaire Rods are a classic math manipulative that allow students to see numbers and their relationships on real-world objects. They are small pieces of different lengths and are able to be manipulated in order to show fractions, adding to and taking away from.
When you have time, will you please check out our next project? I am trying to secure tablets for my workstations in order to expose my students to educational technology. We are in a Title-One School and there is not much funding to buy tablets for classrooms. However, I am not going to stop until I have them in my class for my students. They deserve it!!”
