Kindergarten Kids Love Art!
Funded Dec 2, 2018Thank you again for your generosity! Our class has been enjoying making new art projects to support our units of study along with ELA and Math. We have been working very hard to create inspiring and interactive bulletin boards for all the children in the school to see. Our new Legos have been very beneficial to students who struggle with low muscle tone in their hands. Using the small pieces and having to put them together helps with fine motor skills and hand and eye coordination. Our students have expressed how grateful and lucky they are to have strangers support their love for learning and support them in something that may turn into a future endeavor!”

An Apple Today Keeps Illiteracy at Bay - Part 3
Funded Nov 28, 2018Thank you for your support! We have begun using the iPads to support our students learning in reading, writing and math. For those students who struggle to recognize letters, we have used various interactive apps that allow them to see and hear the letter and sound. In some instances, they can even trace the letter and/or words. We have been using the Starfall app for math which sings songs to learn math concepts. Many times singing a song helps a child with learning disabilities to remember the numbers, the way it looks, the way to form it and what it stands for. The students are so excited when their turn comes around to use the iPad and we can already see it making a difference!”

Funded Aug 22, 2018We recently received our materials and began to implement the program immediately into our Integrated Co-Teaching class. The program has been amazing! The children are able to not only write the letters in their workbooks, but use all the hands on materials and manipulatives to improve their handwriting. The online learning portion is wonderful, as it has songs to go with the different letters and songs that teach how to write. The kids sing many of them throughout the day when they are working independently to help them remember the rules of writing. We are anticipating the results we will see at the end of the year and can only imagine that great things will come from this program!”

Back To School Basics
Funded Aug 15, 2018All our basics have arrived, and we couldn't have been more excited to start off the year with these amazing materials. We have implemented the use of the Boomerang Folder, which has made communication between home and school so much smoother. Parents can clearly see what is homework, and tell the difference between notices that need to be signed and sent back and what they can keep at home for their own resources. The thicker pencils and pencil grips have been used for those children struggling with their grip. We have already used the multicultural crayons for our All About Me project and the children were so excited to have crayons and markers that matched their skin color. Thank you again for supporting us and helping to make the back to school season a smooth experience!”

Funded Aug 5, 2018Even though it is only the third week of school, we have already made use of many of the art materials we received through this project. Transitioning into kindergarten can be very difficult for little ones, however, arts and crafts give them the calmness and sense of creativity they need to be successful. Children are aware that they have more freedom to explore their imagination and express themselves in a creative way when doing art projects. We have already made rainbow names, which help the students identify the letters in their name and spell it with rainbow colors. We can't wait to continue to explore and create with all the fun materials we have received. Thank you again for your generosity!”

Funded Sep 3, 2018Thank you all again for donating to our classroom! We have received an abundance of snacks for the children and they have all been so appreciative. We have been able to give children a snack to calm them during times when they are frustrated and/or anxious. We have also sent children home with a snack in the afternoon if we know they are in need. It has been proven that children work better when they have a full stomach and it has already been apparent in our room the difference it can make. We have also received the hats and gloves and they will certainly come in handy once those cold New York months approach. Many of our students come to school without a hat or gloves, having the extras available in the classroom will allow us to send them home dressed appropriately for the weather. We will continue to support the children who need it most and give them that comfort they are in need of!”
