Guided Readers Grow: Reading IS Fundamental
Funded May 7, 2019I can't fully express my joy, excitement, and gratitude for your donation to my project. It is great to see that you share my vision for allowing all children to experience the joy of shiny, new books to read. The joy is apparent in the project photos I have posted of my students reading their new books.
One way we increase joy and learning is to read with others and in small groups. These books that you have purchased come in multiple copies, so now my students will be able to read with peers in partnerships and literacy circles. They can also participate in guided reading groups, where they can read books with help and guidance. My struggling and not-so-eager readers will now be motivated to read. These books will help them think, remember, and make connections, all skills readers need for growth.
Thank you for choosing to be my partner in this wonderful journey of teaching!”

Funded Sep 5, 2018Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom. With your donation of tablets and headphones, I am able to expose my students to books that they may not otherwise have access to in the classroom. We are also able to access programs with the tablets that enable books to be read aloud to students. This is an important part of reading and vocabulary development.
My students have used these tablets to read books about topics they are interested in and topics we are learning about in class. For example, for our farm unit, students read and listened to books on farm animals and even watched videos on farm animals as part of their research. I am excited to see my students continue to grow and expand their learning with the use of these tablets.”

Funded Feb 14, 2017Today was an amazing day for my students! Your donations paid for an in-class visit and demonstration with five live animals! My students had the opportunity to learn about and interact with a walking stick (insect), an adorable lop-eared rabbit named Thumper, a ring-necked dove, a ball python named Valentina, and a bearded dragon (lizard). The amazing instructor sent by Alley Pond Environmental Center taught my students where these animals live, what they eat, behavioral characteristics and adaptations.
This experience was extra special because many of my students overcame their fears-it was so amazing to see their faces as they pushed themselves to touch animals they were previously afraid of. My students now have a deeper understanding of animal adaptations learned in our science curriculum!”

We Can't Sit Still... Help Us Sit With These!
Funded Mar 25, 2016Thank you for your donations. When the big box arrived in my classroom, "oohs" and "aahs" could be heard throughout. When the box was opened, my students were curious. Of course they were-all students are curious! I was so excited to tell them that these special seats would help them while they are trying to work on their writing pieces-it would help stop the "fidgets" that often frustrated them, and kept them from completing their work.
One by one, my students sat on them. One exclaimed, "Ooh, its so comfy-womfy!" That day, for the first time, that particular student was able to independently complete a writing assignment within the allotted time, and on his own. While I know that it will take time and practice to for him to consistently complete his work, his beaming smile told me that we are on the right track.
His smile, and his increased confidence, are both direct results or your generosity! Please check back as I post pictures of my students using these seats, as well as samples of their writing projects on natural disasters (written while using these seats)!”

Voracious Readers Need Your Help!
Funded Sep 10, 2012This letter is intended to serve as a token of gratitude for your time, money and thoughts as you made a donation to my project. Your donation provided my students with a rug that helped my students in many ways, every single day.
The rug is used, first, as a floor covering, to cushion and project my students as they work together in groups on research, discussions and learning games. The rug is used, second, as learning tool. The illustrations of the 7 continents and the animals that inhabit them provide a resource for my students to obtain information as research and report on several countries in each of the continents this school year. Third, the rug is a great source of pride for my students-when they received this gift, they felt special and extremely lucky that this was bestowed upon them.
Our school, as are many others, is facing tremendous budget cuts. Without your help, my students would not have this vital and inspirational resource.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Scarapicchia
