We are moving into a blended learning environment in first grade! This will require the use of technology and 21st century skills daily. In order to make this task successful, we will need wireless headphones to use with our iPads. We currently have a few iPads that we use during small groups, classroom explorations, group projects and standardized testing. The wireless headphones ๐ŸŽง are needed in order to prevent the first graders from having to use the jack, which can break making the iPad useless for the learning process. The students will be able to use apps such as Seesaw to keep a digital portfolio of their learning throughout the school year. They will be ale to participate in differentiated math and reading activities that will also track their progress during the learning process. This will give me the opportunity to provide small group instruction with some children, while others work on their ability level in learning stations. I also stress the need to write stories. However, several drafts are needed which is not always fun for first graders. Therefore, I try to help make the learning experience fun by allowing them to take ownership and be creative with illustrating their work. Many times this is done with the use of watercolors. Whether they create bats ๐Ÿฆ‡ in the night skyline or fish ๐ŸŸ in the ocean, it is a great experience for them. After completing a final draft, my students will then be able to add their writing with illustrations to their digital portfolio (Seesaw). The children can receive feedback from myself, and their peers. This portfolio can then be shared with parents immediately!
