Dance Costumes Are Desperately Needed
Funded May 22, 2024You saved us! At the end of the 2023-2024 school year (May-June), our dance students performed for their parents and their peers for the first time in their lives. It was the first year of dance class for our 6th through 8th graders and they were so excited to perform.
Besides the nervous butterflies they were nervous because they didn't have any costumes to wear...only their boring school uniforms. That's where you, our fabulous, amazing and generous donors stepped in to save the day.
The students looked so vibrant in their Hawaiian shirts and skirts. The girls looked radiant with the flowers in their hair. Thank you so much for giving a gift that will last forever; Everlasting memories.”

Funded Jan 4, 2024My students and I are so grateful for your generous contribution to our class. The dance students have been thrilled to have the w-King blue tooth speaker. It is used for every dance class and its durability and quality have proven to be a good choice thus far. In addition, I love the microphone! I use it while teaching the groups in the outside areas and allows all students to hear the instructions.
As for the borders and bulletin board displays, we used these to decorate donation boxes for a collection the school was doing for charity.
All of the items have been a tremendous help to our classroom and we all thank you so much for your donations.”

Please Feed My Hungry Students
Funded Nov 16, 2023I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous food donations to my middle school students. The truth of the matter is that these teens are not eating school lunch for a variety of reasons, even though lunch is provided free of charge. Many of them find it unappetizing.
Unfortunately, they arrive hungry to class. Everyone knows that one must feed the mind in order for it to work and with rumbling tummies, the mind doesn't function properly.
With the yummy snacks provided by you, generous donors, spark energy instantly. They are more focused on their work and are able to function better as a result of the snacks.
So far, the students have consumed the popcorn, fruit snacks, Rice Krispies Treats and even the mints.
I don't know what I'm going to do when the snacks are gone. They have been working so well.”

Funded Sep 14, 2023Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness towards public education. Because of your actions, my students have been provided a beautiful and safe place to learn and thrive.
My students are on their way to learning a variety of dance techniques. The yoga mats have been instrumental in teaching the students how to safely stretch and do abdominal and strengthening exercises. In addition, the beautiful flowered leis were used for a dance performance in front of the school's faculty. Everyone loved it and the students had an exhilarating experience.”

Funded Nov 8, 2022I want to thank you for your generosity and allowing my students to have the use of technology in the classroom. The laptops have allowed my students to access learning programs during reading and math. 100% of my students entered this school year with at least one year below proficiency levels in reading, while 52% of my students scored at 2-3 years BELOW proficiency level. These computer programs have been essential in filling those learning gaps these students have.
The headphones have been instrumental in keeping the students focused on their individualized lessons. Having these devices in the classroom have been essential for my students.
Thank you so much!”

Funded Nov 23, 2021Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness towards public education. Because of your actions, my students have been provided a beautiful and safe place to learn and thrive.
My students' favorite thing about the "Out of this World" project is the light-up treasure box toys. These items have not only brought joy to my students, but it has been a great motivator to complete homework and classwork. The bulletin board letters and borders have brought color into the classroom walls and the students get excited when their work is displayed for all to see.
My favorite things are the printer and the privacy shields for tests. These items keep students focused on their tasks. Thanks to donors like yourselves, for making this a memorable, exciting and educational school year.”

Funded Feb 25, 2020The Race for Stem was placed on hold due to the Covid Pandemic. Nonetheless, Once we return to school, I plan to continue with the STEAM racers. It will be something the students can construct independently at home. I built the cart and loaded it with supplies students will use for their STEAM project(s). Once school resumes (hopefully in October) the students will be able to race the cars so that we can crown the winners of the Balloon Car challenges. The timing of this was unfortunate and the students were looking forward to doing their balloon cars, but I'm sure that this year's students will love this project just as much.”

Funded Oct 23, 2019I wish you could see the faces on my students when they saw the classroom "makeover" with the alternative seating. First of all, I created three distinct areas or alternative learning spaces for reading and writing activities (as well as STEM activities).
I used the low table and cushions as an area to work on a writing center, and also for students who needed to be closer to my "word wall" where all of the vocabulary and spelling words are placed.
The wobble chairs are part of a teacher led center but they are also being used to help those "fidgety" students who work best when they're constantly moving. I can't reiterate what a simple, yet ingenious way for these students to concentrate and work to their ultimate potential. I am a true believer that differentiation equals equity in learning.
Finally, the rugs and bench seats make a soft, quiet space for reading. Some students choose to read sitting on the rugs and others on the bench. The shaggy rug is so inviting, that I've caught some students making "snow angels" in the rug.
Thank you so much for DonorsChoose donors for making this project possible.”

Funded Sep 23, 2019A makerspace, like its namesake, means literally a place to make or create things. Imagine creating things using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. That's what STEAM stands for. Thanks to your donation, my students are using various building kits to create things through the STEAM process. For example, the students created a "rocket" using the K-Nex kits. Students reflected on their successes and failures.
On the next try, students worked in groups to create one model of the "rocket" per group, using different materials, including the K'Nex makerspace kits.
Finally, the students will vote on their favorite models to create a 3Dmodel of their design using the mini 3D printer. The students are most excited about this.
So far, we have only tested it out and we know it works, however we are awaiting administrator approval to download a program to actually create the rockets in 3d. Meanwhile, they will take turns using the 3D pen to make a model of their projects.”
