Learn English Together Through Play!
Funded Feb 18, 2024My students were so excited to play with the new learning games you helped purchase. In many of the picture you will see students from different cultures playing together. They speak different languages. The games were able to bring them together to use English to communicate. After each lesson they are given time to play the games. They look forward to this. They love building the USA map puzzle and often ask about each state. They love the fishing game and challenge each other to read the most sight word. Thank you so much for contributing to our class!”

Funded Aug 5, 2022My students have been so excited to use the educational games we received through donors choose. Right away they saw that the center area had new games for them to play.
In my group, students have been using the games and puzzles after their lesson. They work in pairs or small groups. During this time they use both their home language and English to communicate and play the game. This was the purpose of acquiring these games. I wanted the children to practice their English in an authentic situation.
While students play these games they are practicing their vocabulary as well as skills like sequencing, sight word and letter recognition. I am able to observe them and see what they need further instruction in.”

Bilingual Books!
Funded Sep 26, 2022Many of the books we received from this project were picture dictionaries. They have been a instrumental to vocabulary lessons. While learning new vocabulary students use the picture dictionaries to read the words in their language. They are excited to see their language used alongside English.
We also received some picture books in different languages. These books are lent out to students so they can participate in independent reading. Many times new comers don't have books in their languages they can use for classroom reading. It is important for students to continue to build their home language.
Many of my Russian speaking students who have come from the Ukraine have benefited from the bilingual books. They are fluent in Russian and are eager to learn English. The picture dictionaries have been the most helpful to these students.”

Language Power for ALL!
Funded Apr 17, 2019Thank you so much for choosing my project for your donation. There are many projects out there but my students and I are very thankful for your support.
My students are always excited to use the ipad you have donated. During lessons, I am able to search images and videos so that students can visually see new vocabulary. Lessons are more engaging when they can see and hear the content as opposed to just reading about it. After lessons, my students are able to use reading apps to further improve their language. They are most excited about this.
These ipads also help students improve their use of technology. Most of the student in my school come from families who cannot afford ipads or computers. In this technology driven world, they are at a disadvantage. School is sometimes the only place where they get the opportunity to use such technology. Therefore your donation of an ipad has an added benefit to my students.
Again, Thank you so much!”

Hot Dots for Learning!
Funded Mar 27, 2018The Hot Dots center is a big hit! I service 66 children from grades kindergarten to five. When I take a grade I group them. One of the groups works in the Hot Dots center reviewing phonics, antonyms, synonyms etc. This group works independently while I work with another group. Students are engaged in the group and therefore do not interrupt the lesson I am teaching to the other group. The Hot Dots are easy to use and self checking. Therefore, students don't stop me to to ask what they are supposed to do or if their answers are right. This uninterrupted teaching and learning time is valuable to me because it keeps both groups focused. All students get to use the Hot Dots when I switch groups.
When my students saw the Hot Dots they were excited to learn how to use them. They were intrigued by the pen. Younger students loved the Hot Dot Jr. pen because it is in the shape of a puppy. They are excited to use the pens during class and look forward to their turn using them. i told them about the teacher that gave money to our project. I also showed them the video of Stephen Colbert announcing that all projects had been funded by ripple. Honestly, I was more excited about the donations than they were. They just wanted to play with the Hot Dots!
Right now we are currently doing NYSESLAT testing. When testing is over my students will be reviewing figurative language. This is always an interesting topic for older ELL students. My younger students will continue learning about the English language. All students will continue to use the Hot Dots.”

Funded Dec 19, 2016Today we received our meeting area mats! The children were beyond excited. They were happy to all sit in their personal squares. Now when they come to the meeting area they will know exactly where to sit. This will definitely save time and some of my sanity! I will feel more comfortable allowing them to stay at meeting area to do independent or small group work. This maximizes the space in my room. I didn't feel comfortable keeping the children on the floor before we had a mat. We cannot thank you enough!”
