  • Organized for Success

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

We recently returned back to the classroom and we can't thank you enough for your generous donations. Thanks to you our students are prepared for their learning each day. There are so many new COVID protocols in place and the binders have allowed us to meet these challenges. School staff was able to fill each student binder with the materials that students would need for both remote and hybrid learning. There is even room for the Chromebook to slide inside! These zippered binders are helping to keep materials organized and act as a backpack to carry their technology and schoolwork to and from school each day. Our students and staff appreciate your donations and can't thank you enough for helping to make our start to hybrid learning a success.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sargent

  • Full Bellies, Full Brains, Full Hearts

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

During an unprecedented time in education, my students are learning remotely and have been since March. In the past, many of them came to school not only for their education, but for the meals that would sustain them until the next day. Since they were not coming to school, we were concerned about their nutrition and availability of food. Your donation has allowed us to make up food bags to deliver to their homes.

This project has helped us to create a stronger connection with our families. As new immigrants, refugees, and asylees, the need is great for so many of our families. These donations provided them with one less things to worry about for a little while. It is amazing to hear "thank you" in so many languages as families picked up their donations or greeted you at their doorsteps.

An emtpy stomach can lead to distraction, fatigue, and less motivation. Thank you for helping our students to have "full bellies" so that their learning could be maximized and we can promote engagement throughout remote learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sargent

  • “Warming” Our Community With Kindness

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

I cannot begin to thank you enough for your generous donations. Because of your gift, our community has new warmth that was created through kindness. We were able to make more than sixty scarves to leave around our city with a heartfelt message for people to know that they are not alone. We also organized a blanket project that produced more than twenty blankets to donate to our local children's hospital. With the new technology, students made connections with community stakeholders and created slideshows to present the success of our projects. As the project concluded, I had some students research some quotes that they would like to share about kindness towards others and gratitude. This was one of our favorites: "Giving is not just about making a donation, it's about making a difference." Thank you for helping us to make a difference in our community.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sargent

  • Kindness Kits

    Funded Aug 10, 2019

Thank you for donating to our Kindness Kits project. With your donation, we will be able to fill emergency bags for teenagers in foster care. We know it is a difficult time for these teenagers, but we hope to make them happy and know they are cared about.

The project has helped the students to recognize issues in the community and problem-solve ways to help. The use of the new technology has allowed the students to receive support in their native language and reach out to local businesses and stakeholders to ask for donations. As newcomers to the United States, they are not just learning the English language and academic skills, but also skills that will promote successful future academic and social endeavors and help them to be integral parts of their community.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." My students and I have enjoyed being able to help others in our community, and it was made possible through your generous donations. Thanks for helping us to help our community and spread kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sargent

  • Reading Renovation

    Funded Dec 27, 2013

I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for your donations. I had heard of Donors Choose through some colleagues, and I thought I would give it a try for my classroom. I never thought that in such a short period of time I would have a fully funded project. All of you included such kind words in your donations. Whether it be a connection to the Worcester Public Schools, to myself, or to supporting ELL students- you chose to donate to my project and it has made a huge impact.

The students were so excited the day our rug arrived. They were all eager to unroll it and make our classroom library around it. Within minutes, students were lying on it and enjoying good books with friends. They would NEVER lie on our old rug! As weeks continued, I watched as my students enjoyed identifying the different cultures represented on the perimeter of the rug. Many students have chosen to find the continent where they are from and sit there to do their reading or play games with friends. The rug has created wonderful classroom discussions about multiculturalism and diversity with the underlying theme of "Hands Around the World".

In preparation for our Thank You package, we began to discuss what it means to be a "donor". Many of the students asked if they would be able to meet you and thank you in person. I explained how we would share thank you letters and photographs for you to see just how much your generosity meant to us. In closing, I want to share with you what one of my students from Liberia wrote in her practice thank you note. She said, "We love our rug so much. I like to read on it. I hope you keep giving to Donors Choose to help more classrooms." You have provided my students with a wonderful new rug, but you have also taught them one of the most important lessons about giving back. Thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sargent
