Virtual Learning: Bridging the Distance
Funded Sep 17, 2020First of all I must say thank you again for your generosity! This school year has been unlike any other. In the almost 20 years that I have been teaching I never thought we would have a school year like this. A year ago I did not even know what Zoom was and now it is used every school day to connect with students that have remained home during this pandemic and are attending school virtually. When the school year started off all students and teachers were still home and Zooming. Even though I have a school issued laptop the screen is very small. It is near impossible to Zoom while attempting to view the students' faces and screen share any instructional material simultaneously. Through this Donors Choose project and your generosity you made it possible for me to utilize the existing monitor in my home office along with this second monitor and webcam. I am now able to run Zoom on one monitor and have instructional materials on the second monitor. This was so beneficial for the first month and half of the school year that we were still home. Shortly after returning physically to school in October I was then sent home to quarantine for two weeks. During those two weeks I worked from home and the monitor and webcam were indispensable again to have class with my virtual students. I have now taken the second monitor and webcam to school to use with my desktop computer there as there are still classes that I Zoom daily with. Again, a million thanks for bringing this project to a reality and making teaching a little bit easier during this school year like no other!”
With gratitude,

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose 20th Anniversary Fund and 3 other donors.iPad and Osmo for Fun Learning Success!
Funded Sep 12, 2015Technology is a necessity in the classroom and the iPad (with its protective Otterbox case) and the Osmo has been a great addition to the classroom. The Osmo along with the iPad has been implemented as one of the centers during small group rotation during math class. The students are so excited when it is their assigned day to use the iPad and Osmo. One of the activities on the Osmo is tangrams. The students have to apply critical thinking skills when solving the tangram puzzles. I love seeing the expressions on their faces as they try to work out the puzzles. I know that the "wheels" in their heads are turning!”
