I teach Transitional Kindergarten. "What is that?" most people ask. I tell them it is a developmentally appropriate learning environment for children who are not yet 5 and, therefore, cannot yet enter kindergarten in the state of California. TK is all about building relationships and social and emotional development. We focus on hands-on activities that teach through play and art. My classroom is in what people consider a high poverty/high risk school. I like to think it means we just have to be a high creativity school.
