Flexible Seating- Smart Spots for Smart Students
Funded Oct 5, 2019Thank you so much for donating to my project. My students were so excited to see the additions to our flexible seating, and now there are enough options for everyone to have a different seating choice each day. It is difficult for me to convey just how much a wobble stool or an exercise ball means to a child who has a hard time focusing. There are days that having access to these changes everything. You have made a difference in my classroom every single day since those boxes showed up!
Now that we have enough smart spot options for everyone, our next goal is going to be getting a white board table. Is there a better way to practice adding fractions or mapping story elements than writing on a table?”

Engagement and Ownership With Flexible Seating
Funded Nov 7, 2018I wish you could have seen my students when our mountain of boxes arrived. They were so excited to open the boxes and could not wait to try all of our new seats out. We were especially thrilled to see our new wobble stools because the stools you helped us purchase are actually the right size for my students!
We have named our flexible seats "Smart Spots," and they have done much so much more for my classroom than I could have expected. I knew my students would be more engaged in lessons and activities because they are now able to wiggle and get comfortable, but I didn't anticipate the amount of responsibility the seats would encourage. My students decided on rules for using our Smart Spots and I have not had one single misuse or distraction. Since there aren't quite enough spots for everyone, one rule is that homework must be done and turned in before a student may get in line to choose a spot. I have never had so many on-time assignments!
Thank you so much for helping me achieve this first step in getting flexible seating for my students. My next goal is going to be to get enough seats so each student has an opportunity at a better learning environment every day. I would also love to have tables rather than desks in order to further encourage collaboration and community in the classroom. We appreciate all you have done to help us grow!”
