Learning While Playing Games
Funded Sep 20, 2013Thank you so much for funding this project for learning games for my students. They were so excited to see the new items in our classroom. They immediately wanted to start playing with the new games and activities.
The play dough was immediately put to use making spelling words. The Boggle game was also used for spelling words, and a fun game with 4 great students during indoor recess. The dominoes have been the favorite so far. They have had a great time making addition and subtraction sentences with them. They were used by two students to make a game that helped them practice counting the dots (one-to-one correspondence) and still a couple of others enjoyed matching colors. The chart holder has been used to display sight words, word wall words, and vocabulary words. The sight word puzzle set has also been a big hit. These games are educational and fun for students. They love playing and these games are a great addition to my classroom.
Allowing students to choose from several of these games during learning stations allows them to feel a sense of control in their day. It allows them to feel responsible for their learning, excited, and motivated. Thank you again for donating to this project!”

Stations and Storage For First Graders
Funded Sep 26, 2013The students in my class were so excited when the principal brought the boxes to our classroom a few days ago. They couldn't wait for me to open the boxes and put the library storage center and center storage together. When I got it ready to go with books and supplies they couldn't wait to get started with centers. I let them help me choose the books for the science, reading, poetry, and language arts baskets.
The students have been so excited to get to our "center" time each day. Having a shelf for their supplies has made getting started with their centers much easier and takes less time allowing them more time on task. They are able to go to one of the containers and get a center that is all ready for them or supplies to complete a writing or art project. This saves time and allows them to feel a sense of control.
Having a student-centered learning time allows my students to learn in a more active way. They also feel more motivated and responsible for their own learning. Thank you for funding this project and allowing my students to be motivated and excited about learning.”

Terrific Technology for Fabulous First Graders
Funded Sep 9, 2013Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students were so excited to get the iPad mini to use in the classroom. They love to play games and don't even realize they are learning while they are playing. The supplies to organize the library are also very much appreciated. The students are excited to see their library boxes ready with leveled readers just for them.
The students are using the iPad to play educational math, reading, and language arts games. It is so wonderful to see them sharing and taking turns as they play games. They help each other if a game is hard and cheer for each other when they win a game.
The iPad and library organization tools make learning fun for the students. They are excited about choosing books and reading to themselves and in small groups.
Thank you again for your donation to our classroom. Your generosity makes learning fun for my students!”

Creative Reading Instruction
Funded Sep 5, 2013Thank you so much for the art supplies for my classroom. The students were delighted when the principal brought the supplies to us. The students had been busily making sack puppets to tell the story of "Pete the Cat". They immediately wanted to know what puppets would be next. Being able to teach lessons using art makes learning fun for my 1st graders. Something so simple as a sack puppet to practice the skill of retelling the story and sequencing really makes a big impact on my students.
I am looking forward to using the fabric to make super hero capes as we read books about super heroes. I am also planning on using the foam cut outs for a science activity.
Without your generous support we would not be able to do these fun activities that add so much enthusiasm and excitement for my students. I can't say thank you enough for all you have done for my classroom!”

"Magic" Carpet Time
Funded Jul 17, 2013Thank you so much for your generous donation of a carpet for my classroom. I received the carpet after school and took it right to my classroom to get it ready. There was a steady stream of teachers "oohing and aahing" over it. Everyone loved it! The real excitement however, was the next morning when the students arrived. They were thrilled and delighted with it. They love how soft it is, the bright colors, and the fact that there is a spot for each one of them. They tried every color and spot to find the best one. Their excitement brought joy to my morning.
We begin each day with a morning meeting and calendar time to set the stage for the day. The students then return between lessons for story time, directions, and community time. We have had the carpet for almost a week now and they are still delighted with it. Coming to the carpet has never been so easy! They know right where to sit and are ready to go in a fraction of the time it took before we had the carpet. I taught last year without the carpet and now that I have it I don't think I could do without it. Thank you again for your generous donation! The students and I are loving it and are thankful for you each day.”

iPads for Fabulous First Graders
Funded Apr 9, 2013I am a first grade teacher at a low income, Title 1 school. I teach all subjects. Most of my students this year were reading well below grade level and needed a lot of help to learn to read. I am so excited to have the two iPad minis for my students to use. There are many great reading, phonics, comprehension, and math games that will really get my students excited about learning.
Most of them do not have Internet at their home. It is so important that they become computer literate in today's society. Being able to learn to use the iPad this year will help them for years to come. They can play and have fun while learning valuable skills and improving their reading fluency. Thank you so much for helping my students get this boost they need so much. Your gift will help classes get excited about learning for years to come.”
