Middle Schoolers Are Always Hungry!

Help me give my students snacks and pencils for success! As the Intervention teacher, I see some of the lowest academic students. However, I don’t want hunger or focus to be an issue.

I can not find the words to express my gratitude enough! My students have been very appreciative of the snacks and materials for my classes...but especially for the snacks. Lol. It is amazing how hungry Middle School students are throughout the day!! They are not able to focus if they are hungry!

I have really appreciated the whiteboards for my math classes! I am trying to acclimate to being in the Middle School for the first time in 36 years and this has allowed me to do a program called Building Thinking Classrooms to try to get these students to learn to think, not just regurgitate what they are told. This would not have been possible without your generous donations!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Riley

  • Maximizing Math Without Damaging the Earth

    Funded Sep 8, 2022

Thank you so much for the contributions to my math class materials. The students were so excited to have the new materials!! The looks on their faces as they opened the boxes were priceless!

The first item we used was the math locks and keys. The kindergarten and first grade students (and 2-4th if I'm being honest) loved counting or reading the lock and finding the matching key to unlock the lock to see if they were correct. These have been used MULTIPLE times in our new math times. I also used the nuts and bolts number matching with my kindergarten and lower first grade students. They had to match the numbers. The students really enjoyed these.

The writing pads have been a great addition to our writing math problem times. No one has to waste scrap paper or leave dry erase "crumbs" all over my math table when we use these boards! The kids are excited to have a different tool to use to practice our addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems.

The number line is amazing! It is large enough to see easily, but it is also something that can be used with dry erase markers. That is very helpful when showing students leaps, jumps, and hops along the number line! Thanks again for your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Riley

  • Money Cent$ - Financial Literacy for Kids

    Funded Aug 24, 2021

I can not thank you enough for helping to fund my donors choose project with money to purchase materials for financial literacy. The students were so excited to open the boxes and discover the new Hands-on materials to be used to simulate shopping. And the cash registers have been especially popular with students and adults alike! The student council students used one to check out buyers from our Christmas Bazaar! They loved that the calculator really worked and the real money fit in the drawers as well as the play money we normally use. Thank you again for providing these tools!”

  • Amazing Robots: Becoming "Codebot"s Using Ozobots

    Funded Aug 25, 2016

Thank you so much for the contributions you made to my Coding project. The students have really enjoyed learning in such an interactive way. If you are not familiar with coding, it is essentially a way to teach them to think in a logical, step-by-step order. Believe me, this is not a natural thinking pattern for 8-9 year olds! Whenever we have coding time, the kids are so engaged and trying to figure out ways to make the Ozobots outperform one another. At this point, they are able to program the Ozobots to move, turn, and change speeds. It is amazing to watch the excitement as they do the programming and then have that first test run! Of course, competing with their classmates is even more exciting!

Thank you again for contributing to this project! It has far outweighed my expectations and I could not have had this for my students without your help. It is truly a blessing to have such support from my family and friends! -Kim”

Hi Everyone, Thank you for visiting donorschoose.org and giving me an opportunity to tell you about my request! A bit of my professional history: I have been teaching 3rd grade for twenty years and have also taught 1st, 2nd, 6th, K-6 art, and K-5 music! It has been a dream-come-true career for me! When I was in first grade I decided I wanted to be a teacher. Fifteen years later, I went back to that same school and became a first grade teacher myself! And as they say, the rest is history...
