  • Full STEAM Ahead

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your support. It means the world to me that people come together to help my students and my classroom. This year I push into twelve classrooms to teach thirty minute lessons that promote creativity and critical thinking.

One of the classrooms, the students didn't have pencils, crayons, or pencil sharpeners. It made it very difficult to teach and for students to create responses to what they were learning. Students in that classroom now have pencil sharpener, crayons, and pencils provided from this project. I also carry around with me extra pencils and crayons in case students from the other eleven classrooms do not have those supplies.

I also teach identified gifted and talented students in my classroom. They were able to use the craft supplies like the pom-poms, beads, and Play-Doh to create a new vehicle for Santa to use in case his broke down. Coming back from Winter break, students needed a refresher on listening skills. I read the book Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen to introduce my lesson.”

  • Ink for Copies!

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

Thank you so very much for supporting my students, my classroom, and me. It always brings a smile to my face to know that there are people who want to assist me in providing an excellent education as well as a fun learning environment for my students.

The ink for my new printer was extremely helpful for our research project this October. Each of my students had to select a famous person in history to research and create a product that told about this person. Our school has onky one color printer, and you have to submit color copy requests to our assistant principal. It can take days to get the color copies. My students were able to send me their research and pictures they found to print right in the classroom. They were able to create their product quicker due to this. Again, that you so very much.”

  • TPT for the Win II!

    Funded May 9, 2024

Thank you so much for your support! It is currently the beginning of school, and I have tons of ideas of what to teach my students. More ideas than time in the school year. Having the TPT gift cards have helped save me a lot of time to help focus these ideas. I especially love the items Carly and Adam post in their store. We also hosted a Potato Olympics to help problem solve and celebrate the Olympics and Paralympics. They loved competing in Potato Gymnastics (balance beam using skewers), Break Dancing, Potato Running, and Potato Bowling.

Students are looking forward to completing the their All About Me STEM project that we will begin next. ”

  • Wildcat Wars

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

My students are so pumped and ready for our official 2nd Wildcat Wars. My co-teachers are excited that we have all the materials we need well ahead of time. Students will be competing in three areas: trivia, math, and STEM. For the math competition we play Contig. We all needed more 12 sided dice along with the dice trays. The trays make it so nice not having to worry about dice that fall onto the floor.

Our STEM competition is an engineering design challenge that uses 30 sheets a paper per team. With a possible 27 teams, that's a lot of paper. We have plenty to use for the competition and to practice. My students have enjoyed creating a slow moving paper maze with the paper and tape. The goal was to use a ping pong ball to move through the maze with the slowest time possible. All the teams have had a chance to practice this challenge as a warm up. They were so excited to see how different each of their mazes were and how they worked.”

  • STEM for All II

    Funded Nov 8, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and my students. My fourth and fifth grade students are studying a CSI unit (crime scene investigations). We are reading The Westing Game to go along with the unit. They are taking notes on each suspect and writing down the clues to help solve who murdered Mr. Westing. This helps add some literacy to our STEM unit.

My first and second grade students have been studying owls, so we dissected owl pellets to study what owls eat. We used the foam trays to place the owl pellets on. They also used the cardboard tools to cut cardboard from our Makerspace to create whatever they imagined. It was much easier than using scissors.”

  • Total (Solar) Eclipse of the Heart

    Funded Oct 19, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting this project. Since I was in the 9th grade, I have wanted to witness a total solar eclipse. In 2017, I traveled to Missouri with my family to witness one. It was breathtaking. Since then every year, I have mentioned the upcoming April 8, 2024 total eclipse that will be happening in our very own city! I have shared this passion of mine with my students, and they are excited to witness it for themselves. I have read different eclipse books to my students, and A Few Beautiful Minutes is one of my favorites. The illustrations are wonderful. My students and I have practice wearing the solar eclipse glasses and discussed safety while wearing them. We have gone outside and just looked at the regular sun, and my students were fascinated by the fact they couldn't see anything with the glasses until they looked at the sun. Thank you for helping my students be prepared to witness this natural phenomenon.”

  • Kindness Rocks!

    Funded Oct 25, 2023

Thank you so much for your support for my classroom and my students. They absolutely LOVED this participating in my Kindness Rocks project. I started off by reading both books-Kindness Rocks and Scribble Stones- to my students. This help plant the seeds of kindness. Next students where to select three rocks of their choice and use the paint markers to paint kind words and beautiful pictures on the rocks. Students had to select one rock to place in front of our school, one rock to give away, and one rock to take home to share kindness there. They loved looking at the rocks the other students decorated for ideas. Teachers and students who received the rocks were touched by the kindness my students displayed.”

  • Hands on Science

    Funded Oct 20, 2023

Thank you so much for your support. My fourth and fifth grade students are studying CSI (crime scene investigation), and they are loving it.

We discussed how dental records and impressions could help solve cases, so my students participated in a dental impressions lab. Students made dental impressions on two sets of plates. I labeled one set with their names and the other with letters. Students had to study the two sets and match them. They also rated different types of candy like gum, Circus Peanuts, Laffy Taffy, and Airheads to see which candy held better dental impressions. The candy lab was a hit!

Thank you for your support of my class and my students.”

  • Snacks for School

    Funded Nov 4, 2023

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. Food insecurity is such a major issue at my school, and these snacks have been a life saver. My school just started having after school basketball and cheerleading practice. Parents were asked to pack a snack for the students to have between after school and before practice. Over half the students do not have a snack and stay at school over ninety minutes after school. Students were thrilled to be able to choose a snack from Pringles, Goldfish, Cheez-Its, fruit snacks, and more. They have thanked me over and over again.”

  • Let's Glow

    Funded May 10, 2023

Students LOVE anything Glow in the Dark! I just knew they would flip for our STEAM activities using Glow in the Dark and fluorescent items. Students were so excited to walk into the classroom with my black lights turned on. They stopped just to look around the room. We discussed why items glow in the dark and terms like bioluminescent and phosphorus were used.

Students each received a glow sticks and a magnifying glass. They were to inspect the glow stick to se if they could observe the smaller tube inside the glow stick. They broke the tube to cause a chemical reaction. Even though they have done it hundreds of times, they thought it was super cool to see a tube inside and know that they caused a chemical reaction.

Thank you so much for your support!”

I teach gifted and talented students at an inner-city school. My school is in a low-economic area with very limited resources. The kids are great. Many are trying to rise above the challenges in their life (parents in prison, single parent homes, parents working two jobs just to pay the bills). These kids still look at education as fun and drink in the learning. They are always asking about how things work or why events happen. My school is doing well test wise, but our district budget continues to be cut, which means little to no field trips. We need to have more experiences in the classroom to make up for the loss of field experiences that these students need and thrive on. Many of the gifted students I have are African American and Hispanic. Many times being both a minority and living in low-poverty means exposure to middle class America is limited, which puts him or her behind others when they reach middle school
