This is my first year teaching and their first year as third graders, and I want to change the way they think, and feel about math. With the generosity, and help from donors, I know my students will be much more excited about math. These materials will certainly allow me to make their "math" dreams come true! The materials we need, will provide RICH math experiences, and ultimately change the way they perceive, and do math! For our measurement unit, we need a scale as well as weights for the students to experience math outside of the traditional pencil, and paper teacher. Another thing that will be truly beneficial, not just with math, but for each subject, are the personal "write and response pockets". These response pockets, work as little white boards, and are PERFECT for quick, and fun assessments! The last and final unit of the school year is geometry, and one of the necessary items for success with geometry are tangrams, and pattern blocks. It is one thing to show a student a shape on the board, and say this an octagon; however, when a student has the physical item, their "wheels do not stop turning!"
