The materials and activities I am requesting for my 3rd grade students would make a huge impact in our diverse classroom. First, the wobble stools would help the students who struggle with ADHD or other learning disabilities to have a flexible seating option available to them that can increase their focus. The tent, pillows, noise machine, cuddling pillow, finger mazes and sensory toys/fidgets would be used to create a "calming corner" so that when students get overstimulated and need a space to calm down and take a brain break/self-regulate, they can. This will be especially beneficial for my students with autism, ADHD, and other learning disabilities but it will be available for all students. The learning games/activities will allow me to provide more hands on learning experiences for students on a daily basis. Lastly, the playground balls will provide students with more opportunities for play at recess and P.E.
The items in this project are intended to help differentiate and individualize instruction for a diverse group of students while enhancing their focus, engaging them in their learning, and increasing their critical thinking skills.
COVID-19 impacted education greatly and caused students to miss out on many hands-on learning experiences the past couple of years. Some students lost their love for learning due to this pandemic. There are also many students experiencing social and emotional struggles on a regular basis. Each item and activity in this project are chosen with the purpose of increasing students' love of learning and creating a welcoming, calm, safe classroom space that my students look forward to coming to each day. These items will help me to better individualize and differentiate instruction, make accommodations for students in the classroom with various learning disabilities, enhance student focus, engage students in their learning, and increase logic/critical thinking.
