Students will all equally be able to have access to the same supplies for their X-R-P (Expert Research Projects). They will be able to learn how to research, write, and become an "expert" on their choice of 3 assigned social studies or science topics. Students will be taught how to use written articles, books and the Internet to research their topic. Students will learn how to write anecdotal notes from the research using the chart paper. The chart paper will also be used to teach how to write a good informational paragraph during writing time. Then during X-R-P time, the students will use what they have learned to write expert paragraphs about their topic. The markers and presentation boards will be used to present their topic as an expert, visually and verbally. The presentation boards will actually be cut in half so we will be able to do 2 different projects, 1 Social Studies and 1 Science. As this includes a lot of notes and writing, everyone will make use of the pencils and the sharpener. This project will allow students of varying abilities to work on the same level as they become experts on their chosen subject. It will give students confidence, help to teach time management and responsibility. And all their expert work will be theirs with only guidance from me as their teacher. They will learn the standards in each of the individual subjects, then apply that to the expert project. At the end, we will invite the parents to see the finished projects displayed. Project based learning across curriculum enhances student learning as it engages students and requires them to take ownership in their learning outcome...and students have fun becoming experts.
