I am a special education teacher for students in grades 9-12. My students have varying degrees of learning difficulties. They attend an alternative program that focuses on credit recovery and dropout prevention.
Most of my students struggle to get their basic needs met.
Due to the extremely high poverty rates in our community, all students in the district receive free meals. Additionally most, if not all, of my students have experienced significant traumas in their families and neighborhoods.
