  • Diverse Books for Mrs. Pringle's Students

    Funded Aug 19, 2020

I am still in awe of the generosity you all showed in helping us fund this project for a more diverse classroom library. Although our district has not made a full return to in-person learning yet, we are still enjoying stories through read-alouds while remote learning. Read-alouds on Google Meet are definitely not quite the same as in person, but students are still enjoying hearing stories that reflect their diverse backgrounds.

Having a classroom library that represents the diversity of my students is incredibly powerful and meaningful. Already students have responded positively to stories about hijab like in "Muslim Girls Rise," stories about the importance of unique names like in "The Name Jar," and stories about differently-abled kids like in "Just Ask!," along with so many more.

Students become empowered when they can see themselves and their culture represented positively in stories and they feel seen when their experiences are shared with their class through literature. I am so happy to be able to share these books with my students and I can't wait for the day when students can get their hands on these books when we return in person to our school building.

Thank you all again so much from the bottom of my heart.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pringle

  • Putting Durable Materials in the Hands of High Need Students

    Funded Jan 8, 2020

Thank you so much for the generous donation of a brand new laminator for our school.

Our laminator that we have used over the years has not been working and our teachers have not been able to protect their teaching aides. We were in need of a new one for some time now and this donation was a blessing for us. The teachers in our building use our laminator on a daily basis. This donation allows us to have a tool that will keep our anchor charts, pictures, and other teaching aides protected for years to come.

We want to again thank you for your generous donation to our school. It is greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pringle

  • Math and Writing Demonstrations, Starring Mrs. P's Students!

    Funded Aug 4, 2017

On behalf of myself and my students I want to say a huge thank you to all for helping me to fund this project! When our new document camera came in, I explained to the students how people had donated in order for our classroom to be able to get this device. They were so excited and impressed by the generosity of all the donors. Many of them wrote notes of thanks to the donors, saying that they were very grateful for the donations and that they were excited to use the document camera in Math, Science, and English Language Arts.

Having a document camera in my classroom has been a real game-changer. With this tool we are now able to engage in learning and share ideas in new and better ways than ever before. In math it is much more efficient than ever for students to share their work and explain their strategies with others in the class without having to recreate the entire thing on the whiteboard. For example, a recent math problem the class worked on involved using a calendar to solve. Students were able to put their paper under the document camera and share with the class their strategy for solving using the calendar, without having to draw squares for the entire month on the board.

In science we have been able to demonstrate projects and experiments under the document camera so a large group of students can see demonstrations when it is not possible for all to gather around. Most recently we were able to do this with our cloud craft activity, helping students to recreate the activity themselves.

One of the most helpful things we have been able to use the document camera for so far has been teaching students to edit their writing. We are able to put a piece of writing under the document camera so that it can be viewed by a large group of students who can then contribute ideas and suggestions for edits and revisions to the writing. This has helped students gain more skills in their written language in an authentic way, where their own writing notebooks can be used in the instruction.

In conclusion, on behalf of myself and my class, we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the incredible generosity that you have shown to us. We are so excited to be able to have this technology in our classroom, and we are putting it to great use each day in all our subjects. Thank you again so much for helping to provide Mrs. Pringle's class with a document camera!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pringle
