My students are all working individually through their Spanish courses. While students are able to ask for assistance with understanding grammar portions better, I've always told them the learning actually vocabulary is something that only they can do. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning through the use of Spanish-English dictionaries. When a student does not recognize a word, they are encouraged to look in one of the few Spanish-English dictionaries that we have. Several of our students, although they are in middle and high school, have to be taught how to look words up. Having more than a handful of dictionaries that are updated would enable me to provide a lesson at the start of their placement on how to use said dictionaries. This would then give my students the confidence necessary to look up unfamiliar words, which in turn would help them be successful with their learning of the Spanish language.
