  • Clean Space, Clear Mind!

    Funded Sep 19, 2021

The students have greatly loved being able to comfortably and safely sit on the floor and have our normal circle time. The past 2 years have been a struggle to keep 4 year olds apart and yet teacher socialization. The easily wipeable floor mats and cleaning supplies have given them a space to safely congregate and have conversations with each other.

The students were excited when they saw the mats on the floor. They ran over to them and sat down immediately. It was so nice to see them enjoying something as simple as a clean space to sit with their peers.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. PREK 001 at PS52”

  • Breath of Fresh Air

    Funded Dec 16, 2020

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and generosity. When we received our air purifiers and classroom supplies that students were so excited. Due to the Covid restrictions, the windows in our classroom were required to be open fully in order to allow for proper ventilation. As you can imagine, the winter months were beginning to present a great challenge. After receiving the air purifiers, we were able to close the majority of the windows. This allowed up to remain comfortable in the classroom without being bundled up due to the cold weather.

Additionally, I would like to add that we have had 0 cases in our classroom between staff and students. The air purifiers have helped keep us in school and healthy all year long and we are truly grateful for that.”

    With gratitude,

  • Let's Code!

    Funded Nov 17, 2017

My students and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your extremely generous donations. Not only have the materials made an impact in the students learning, but the idea that people outside of our school and local community care about their learning has meant the world to them.

All of the materials donated were used as a part of our "Code Week" in our school. During this week, ALL of the students in our building had an opportunity to explore the various coding tools. The impact of this has been unbelievable. Students were using block coding with the Osmos and Code-a-Pillars to get their character through a maze. They were also using their creativity with Bloxels to create their own video game characters with animation. Through the exploration, parents were also able to participate and see what their children were learning and how they may support them at home.

Since "Code Week", students have shown increased interest and ability in their basic coding skills. The kindergarten and first grade students have become much better problem solvers and are excited to come to class and learn. With the various items received teachers have been able to bring coding into their classrooms as well. The items will continue to be utilized throughout the years to encourage students to be problem solvers and to learn how to code.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Polz

With my students being all below grade 1, including students with disabilities, they need tools that allow them to manipulate and visualize the coding. The Osmo gives children hands-on coding and allows them to manipulate the blocks. Bloxels allows students to use pixels to create their own video game. Code-a-pillar gives the students a robot to program in the simplest form. By receiving these materials, it will give my students more opportunities to code. Rather than using unplugged materials students will be able to use technology and become more engaged. Introducing children to computer programming and coding at a young age gives them an edge up for the future. With so many careers in the ever-growing computer science field, children often receive little or no exposure to programming until high school or even college. At the young age of 5, my students are learning how to code and are engaged in not only playing on computers and tablets but creating with them. Coding also helps the students with their computational thinking and problem solving. All skills that are important in all of their subject areas.
