SMARTboard for Smart Students
Funded Oct 13, 2015I can not begin to express my gratitude to the Donor's Choose team and to the anonymous donors for your help in purchasing this lap top.
I am one of the teachers lucky enough to have a SMART board in my classroom. However, there is only one teacher issued lap top that gets attached to the SMART board. With this lap top, I've been able to conduct essential reading assessments that inform instruction, without losing use of the SMART board.
It has also been hugely helpful to have a touch screen because while many of my students are familiar with new technology, they are unfamiliar with the use of a keyboard. The ability to have them use the educational apps with a touch screen has been very helpful.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Philpotts
103 Is On Amazon Fire!
Funded Nov 23, 2014My students were absolutely amazed when they opened their Amazon Fire box! They couldn't believe people that are total strangers to them, funded such a cool piece of technology. Since they've received it, I've downloaded several applications that reinforce various skills such as letter sounds, sight words, one digit addition and subtraction, read along, shape recognition, and skip counting among other things.
I've implemented a schedule where each student gets 15-20 minutes of "tablet time". When it is their turn, they are extremely excited to get their turn. Students who were struggling readers have had the opportunity to have letter sounds and sight words drilled, through apps. I downloaded a word building app, that corresponds with the weekly spelling words, that has been hugely helpful. In conjunction with good instruction, the tablet has been really instrumental in getting students necessary drilling practice, while I'm working with others.
I can't thank you all enough for your generosity, please continue to support public education in any way you can.”
With gratitude,

Mrs. Philpotts' First Grade Super Star Room
Funded Aug 21, 2014From the minute the materials were hand delivered by the principal to our room, my students were wide eyed and amazed that they were receiving such awesome gifts. I explained to them that my friends, family, neighbors, and even strangers paid for the items because they believe in their ability to learn and become productive members of society. My students and their families were truly taken back by your generosity.
As you can tell from the posted pictures, students have been making themselves quite comfortable in the classroom library and they've really taken a liking to getting cozy with each other in the chairs, and reading to one another. I can't get over how one small addition to a library has turned them into literature lovers!
I like to call the antique desk and chair the "creation station". I use it as an incentive for students to complete their work, follow the rules, and set a positive example for others. When students have done exceptionally well in their classwork and behavior, I allow that person to visit the "creation station" for the last thirty minutes of the day, while publicly recognizing that student for their achievement.
We are almost done with the first marking period of grading. With all of the challenges my students and I faced at the beginning of this school year, I can't imagine how much harder it would have been without you all alleviating the burden of not having basic supplies. My students and I can't thank you enough for your kind hearted donations. May God bless you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Philpotts
