  • STEMing Our Way to the Top with IPads!

    Funded Oct 17, 2014

I do not know where to start. I wish you could have seen the sheer excitement on my students' faces when I started opening a box from Best Buy (which caused great discussion about what it could be...) then proceeded to pull out the iPads! Before I could get the boxes unwrapped, my students were talking about different apps they knew about, what we could do with them, and even how we were going to charge them.

Before we got to start using them, two of my students designed a charging station using a basket and a USB hub that we had in our classroom. I was amazed and proud! Just the idea that we had these iPads caused my children to begin thinking critically as to how we could take care of them to ensure that they last a long while. We've since found some apps that suit our needs and use the iPads daily. My Spanish-speaking students are reading and expanding vocabulary and my English-speaking students are learning Spanish!

Thank you, thank you for giving my students so much more than iPads and cases! With the magazines from Time and the iPads, you've given my students tickets to see the world through technology and research. You've opened their eyes to learning new things, even new languages. Thank you for bring STEM education closer to our grasp!”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Pelafigue

  • No Computers, No Technology

    Funded Oct 11, 2013

I cannot even begin to describe the impact that our computers have had in our classroom! Thanks to your generosity and support, my students get at the very least, two full hours of week on the computer completing tasks, researching and learning with up-to-date technology. They are so eager to have their computer time! I wish you could see their eyes light up when they become the teacher and share information that they have been able to find on their own.

Our laptops have enabled my students to excel and since we've been using them I have seen increases in student academic performance and an exceptional increase in their reading performance.

Thank you! Thank you for empowering my students to learn through STEM processes, thank you for showing my students the importance of giving back to the community and most importantly thank you for believing in us!”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Pelafigue

  • Learning To Read Starts With A B C...

    Funded Apr 18, 2013

Thank you, Jeff! Your kindness is going to go a long way. Our materials arrived during graduation week; since my children (this year) were not able to fully enjoy them, we wrote notes to next years kindergarteners presenting them our new listening center activity as a gift from a very special person, you! They were very excited to be able to share good news with the new boys and girls coming in to my class. I wish you could have seen the joy on their face, not because they received something, but because they were able to share it with others. Thank you for helping me teach my children to 'pay it forward'.”

    With gratitude,

  • Technology Is Key To Our Success!

    Funded Mar 15, 2013

I wish you could all see the delight on my students faces when I tell them they are going to the Tablet Center. Who would have known these ABC Tablets would have been the breaking point for some students from non-speaking to expressive presenters. It is like the tablets have opened their eyes to literacy. Games, letters, songs, and even bi-lingual fluency is becoming more and more a part of my students daily practice. Students who didn't participate before are eager to go to centers because we finally have something that works for THEM! Thank you, thank you all for your help in engaging my learners and keeping them excited about learning for a lifetime!”

  • Phonics Blocks Will Build Our Reading Skills!

    Funded Apr 12, 2013

Sometimes the hardest things to teach are the ones that are the most obvious to some students. In my class this year I have some students who catch on quickly and others who have taken nearly the whole year to master the letters in their name. Thanks to you we now have a tool that will meet each child at his or her level and allow them to work at their own pace. The phonics program is designed in a way that I can pull certain skills for certain children. This is an AMAZING addition to our classroom! I can't wait to see the progress my students will make once they've been using it for a while!”

  • Growing Magic for Kindergarten

    Funded Sep 23, 2012

Have you ever seen the joy in a child's eye when they've accomplished something; I mean TRULY accomplished something? I have- the day we built our green house and added plants! My students loved being able to go outside and check on our plants daily. Unfortunately we lost them in bad weather, we managed to save our green house to shelter our experiments for another day. We had so much fun learning about taking care of plants that we had to move a small garden indoors for the winter. Thanks to your generosity, my students learned to care for plants and how plants help us each and every day. I can't wait to share that experience with my students next year1”

  • I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Headphones!

    Funded Oct 24, 2012

I love, love, love it when my students tell me how much they love something we have in our classroom! My students have expressed (on many occasions) how much fun it is to be able to move around at our listening center. They aren't tethered to the cart. They have freedom of movement and can lay out on the floor and be so comfortable! I wish you all could see how excited they are when I send them off to centers!

We thank you so much for your kind generosity and your care and concern for my children!”

    With gratitude,

  • Scientists in the Making

    Funded Sep 17, 2012

When I set out to attain these materials I anticipated a long wait, a potential partial funding, and the continued effort of having to make-do with what we had to provide somewhat of a science curriculum for my students. Thanks to the generosity of Chevron, my students now have more science tools than ever. Our garden is growing, we've learned about light and color, we've even done several experiments! Without your help, we would be growing red beans in paper cups! Instead, we have a beautiful garden of pumpkins, beans, sunflowers, and peas!

Thank you, Chevron! Thank you for believing in us and supporting our education!”

  • Crazy About Music!

    Funded Sep 11, 2012

Oh how I wish I'd had my camera today when a big brown box arrived! I've never seen so many students in awe of a cardboard box. The excitement has been growing for them since I told them their very own musical instruments were on the way. Now they can learn to play, make their own band, and the most exciting part for my students will be when they get to march in their own parade! Thanks to donors like you, my students have been given the gift of music. They are thrilled beyond belief and can't wait to show us all what they can do!”

    With gratitude,

  • We Have the 'Write' to Succeed!

    Funded Feb 9, 2012

Thank you! Your generosity and kindness has been essential to the success of my students. The writing tools provided us with countless hours of extended practice without wasting a million sheets of paper. I am so excited to see my children engaged in writing activities using various tools that we do not have to throw away each day.

As a teacher, I enjoy so much in sharing their joy and excitement for learning. Thank you for providing me that moment in the day when the journey to learning something new really takes flight!”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Pelafigue

I teach second grade at a large school in southern Louisiana. My students are eager to learn and work hard to push through the barriers that they may have been dealt to be the most successful students that they can be. Many of our students have special needs and additional instruction beyond the days lessons; not only academically, but emotionally and mentally due to the violence they see and hear each day. Our administration and staff is focused on sending our students on to bigger and better things, being confident that their foundation of learning is strong and will withstand the trials that many of our students will experience before high school is over. We believe, we achieve, we succeed!
