Hungry Brains Need Snacks to Learn
Funded Oct 20, 2024Thank you for the generous donations to our Donors Choose Project: Hungry Brains Need Snacks. Our students are in the classroom for 90+ minutes each day. They all receive a free breakfast, but by the time 10:00 a.m. comes around, they are hungry and unable to concentrate on the lesson or classwork they are supposed to be completing. The students love having the ability to get a snack of either a granola or cereal bar to help tide them over until lunch.
I have noticed that the students are more focused and can complete their work better. Some of their grades have increased because they are not focused on their hunger and can concentrate on their assignments.
Again, thank you for your generous donations to our project; your donations make a difference in how our children learn in the classroom.”

Funded Nov 1, 2024Thank you for your generous donations to our Donors Choose Project: Alternate Seating for High School Health-Related Technology Classroom. The students were excited to open the boxes and find the beanbags and ball chairs.
They have been using the area to plan group projects and relax when they need a brain break during their 90-minute class period. This allows them to better focus on the work they need to complete.
The students love the new ball chairs and are so excited to use them in place of traditional seating in the classroom. In the short time they have been in use, I have noticed less fidgeting in class because the students are more comfortable sitting on the ball chairs.
Again, thank you so much for your support of my students and for helping me build a comfortable learning environment for them.”

Practice Makes Perfect - Medical Terminology Workbooks for HRT Students
Funded Oct 3, 2024Thank you for your generous donations to our Donors Choose Project: Practice Makes Perfect - Medical Terminology Workbooks for HRT Students. Our students are 10th & 11th grade high school students in the Health-Related Technology Career and Technical Education program. One of the things they have struggled with in the past was learning medical terminology. These medical terminology workbooks are written at a level the students can understand, allowing them to start identifying different medical terms and their meanings. These workbooks are being used in conjunction with the medical terminology textbooks.
Many of these students are interested in pursuing a healthcare career after high school. These Medical Terminology workbooks are helping them increase their understanding of the different medical terms, which will allow them to use those terms properly when discussing their patients' past medical history, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
Again, thank you for your generous donations to our project; your donations make a difference in how our children learn in the classroom.”

Funded Dec 28, 2023Thank you for your generous donations to our Donors Choose Project: Black and White Printer for Student Projects. The students received the printer and ink that was needed for them to complete their projects. They were able to print information for posters and write essays for class and the HOSA State Leadership Conference.
Over the next couple of weeks, the students will be working on projects related to the proper care of a patient in the hospital and will be required to produce a poster or booklet providing information that they would need to teach their patient related to an aspect of the patient's care. The printer and ink your donations provided will allow them to have the ability to complete these projects.
Again, thank you so much for your support of my students and the assistance in providing the equipment needed for my students to provide patient teaching materials.”

They have been using the area to plan group projects and relax when they need a brain break in the middle of their 90-minute class period. This allows them to be able to better focus on the work they need to complete.
Over the next couple of weeks, the students will be working on designing and completing a podcast that they will be presenting to younger students in the middle school. This area has greatly assisted them to be able to work together as a team to figure out how to complete this project.

Funded Dec 28, 2023Thank you for your generous donation towards our project to provide hats, scarves, and gloves to our students in need. As you can see the students were very excited to open the boxes of hats, gloves and scarves.
Through your generous donation we were able to provide almost 100 students in our school that did not have adequate outerwear hats, gloves and scarves prior to the snowstorms that hit Pennsylvania a couple of weeks ago. This allowed our students to have warm clothing for their commute to and from school. Because many of our students come from low-income families and some of them travel via bus and/ train your donation has allowed them to be able to stay warm and comfortable during their commute.
Again, thank you for your generous donations to our project; your donations make a difference in how our children learn in the classroom.”

Funded Mar 13, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation of furniture for our Health-Related Technology lab. Students are using the furniture to learn how to care for patients in their homes. They have learned how to assist a patient to get from their bed using walkers and canes, to the couch or chair. They have also learned how to help the patient sit comfortably on the couch and how to transfer the patient from the couch or chair to a wheel chair.
The students were extremely excited when the furniture arrived at the school and they helped to put together the furniture so it could be used in the lab. The students love being able to learn about caring for patients in their homes.
As the students continue to hone their skills in patient care, they will be encouraged to practice until they are able to complete the technique 100% of the time. Moving forward as the students move into 11th and 12th grade we will be looking at options for internships so these students can continue build on their existing knowledge and potentially go to college or get a job in the medical field.
Again, thank you for your generous support of our classroom and know your donation are making a huge difference in the education our students are receiving.”

Mrs. Orr
