Technology is constantly changing and at a rapid pace. We are requesting need an Apple iPod Touch and splitter to use in their listening center to listen and respond to literature during center work. My students have grown up in the iPad Generation and need very minimal direction on operating one! Many times they end up teaching me a new thing or two each year. I want to incorporate a listening center using a product that many of them are familiar with, but with the ever decreasing funding education sees each year, purchasing is always challenging or non-existent. The students I teach need more exposure to literature and to being read to. Listening centers, especially ones that utilize current technology help support all the learners in a classroom. My students will not only benefit from listening to a read aloud, but will also be able to demonstrate their knowledge of content lessons taught during our CORE reading block. Having this technology also allows my students to complete other center activities such as a Listen & Learn activity where students increase their listening skills as they listen to the directions while completing the task directed. Use of a headphone splitter allows for use of one Apple Ipod Touch among a group of students, which helps keep the cost of equipment down, yet provides students with an engaging, yet purposeful task.
