Funded Dec 28, 2023I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful donation to my classroom. My students are going to enjoy their own copy of "Oh, the Places You Will Go" by Dr. Seuss as a graduation gift in May. I've already begun to write in the book personal notes or personal stories for each student. They are going to love reading their book at the end of the year. I'm planning on having an end of the year party with their families so I can hand out their gift
Thank you for your generosity to make it possible for my sweet kindergarteners to receive a personal graduation gift!”

Reading Centers for Kindergarteners!
Funded Nov 28, 2023Thank you for your generous contribution to our project "Reading Centers for Kindergarteners." The puzzles and picture magnets have been extremely beneficial during our Reading Station time. As you can see from the pictures, the picture magnets allows hands on activity with a partner to match beginning sounds. And we used the instant reading centers during reading group for some fun! The students are getting really good at reading CVC words!
Your generosity is key to the success of our kindergarten classroom. I am so grateful for the support of our donors and volunteers. Thank you for helping us keep our reading fun!”

Funded Sep 16, 2023In our classroom, every day, we do math centers where students can work independently. When I showed them the new math centers that you donated to they were so excited! Their favorite was the magnetic shapes. I could here they chatting about all the structures they made. "Look I made a door!" "This is a castle!" "I'm making a house for a bear!" They were 100% engaged in using their brains to create various things.
One standard that the students need to learn is counting with one to one correspondence. The wooden puzzle that I ordered was a perfect center for two students to work together to count and put the puzzle together.
Thank you so much for helping make math fun and engaging in my classroom!”

Storytime Resources
Funded Aug 28, 2023My favorite subject to teach in my class is reading! I collect various kinds of books to reach ALL my student's interests. It's important to me for not only the student to be able to comprehend a text but to also enjoy a text. If I'm able to foster a love of reading and learning in kindergarten I know they will grow to be a successful student. The box of books that you donated helps me reach ALL my students. We do a unit on fairy tales and included in the box was Little Red Riding hood, Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Strega Nona. When we read these books we discuss characters and setting. Then we eventually begin to use our imagination to write our own fairy tales! It's so exciting to see their little minds at work!
Another unit I teach is the rainforrest. I ordered different rainforrest books to show the variety of animals that live there. The boys and girls love reading the non-fiction books to explore the rainforest.
Thank you so much for donating to my classroom!”

A Place to Learn Together
Funded Nov 30, 2022If you were to visit my classroom the first thing you would see is our new, shiny reading table. We use it at least three times a day (during reading, writing and math groups). Our favorite time of day is writing. Every day I read the students a story and then they are assigned a writing prompt about the story. The students ask me, "Oh, Mrs. Novelly can I come to your table?" They have such a great time sitting around the table writing and I'm able to comfortably lean over and help sound out a word.
When the table first came the students walked in with dropped jaws. Where did you get this? I explained to them how my friends and family donated money so we can have a comfortable table. They are truly thankful!
We have a little over 10 weeks of school left. Our next challenging project is to write our own books. We will be meeting around my table drawing pictures, sounding out words and writing sentences.
My class and I say a BIG thank you!”

Funded Aug 14, 2018Thank you so much for donating to Room 8's Easel project! It was difficult to write on the old easel and there was very little storage. As you can see, in one of the photos, there is plenty of room to put markers, paper, books, and even our class puppets! One of the students favorite things to do is play "teacher". During stations, two students at a time use the easel to match letters or pictures and they take turns pretending to be the teacher!
We also use it during our whole group reading and writing time. It's so easy to hold the big books on the easel tray and all the students are able to see the text. We play games with the magnet letters on the white board. Also I use chart paper on the easel to model how to write a sentence in front of the whole class!
In September, the students were very curious when they saw a huge box in the back of the classroom. When I got it set up the next morning they were thrilled! Thank you so much for supporting my classroom! The easel has made a big difference in our school day!”

Mrs. Novelly
