  • Mindful Caring for Emotional Support

    Funded Mar 18, 2021

Thank you for funding this amazing project. These books are coming in handy and my students are exploring kindness, mindfulness and gratitude. Classrooms are using "Yoga for kids" by Susannah Hoffman . SEL Social Emotional Learning is incorporated into daily lessons. The book " Calm Mindfulness for Kids" By Wynne Kinder, M.Ed, We will be making a glitter calming bottle in 4th grade, The book," I Am Peace" By Susan Verde helps young students find their calm. I want to thank you for these books. This is a great way to help with regulation and getting ready to learn. Thank you again.”

  • Supporting Remote Learning

    Funded Mar 31, 2021

Thank you for funding my project Supporting Remote Learning. I was able to add a document camera which enabled me to demonstrate and see the student at the same time. Demonstration is an important component in the learning process. I was also able to print out material to use during remote learning. This was a difficult time and we were able to modify and work together to make this time a learning experience. I thank all my donors for supporting me and all the teachers that are working so hard to make our students learning process amazing.

    Thanks a million!!!!!”

  • Fine Motor Tools for Little Hands

    Funded May 22, 2021

Thank you for funding my project Fine Motor Tools for Little Hands. I received the order and created little boxes of tools such as loop scissors, pencils grips, sharpeners, erasers. I also added to the boxes fidgets that each child picked out. Each box is their own, so no sharing. The boxes are used during OT time and when in the classroom under the supervision of the classroom teacher. The children were so excited to get their boxes. These tools allows my students the ability to help with their writing and cutting.

Donors Choose allows me to purchase needed materials that I otherwise would not be able to get for my students. I too am a Donor. I start off donating to my project and always want to help support other teachers and OT's that are also trying to get needed supplies for their students. I thank you all so very much!!!!”

  • Visualize Learning With a Document Camera

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

I just want to thank you for the donation. My document camera arrived and it is making a big difference in the way I see my students remotely. I am able to demonstrate and see my student via zoom. This allows my student the ability to see me demonstrate how to form letters and how to squeeze the play dough. We work on Ispy activities and word searches. My students enjoy this added feature that I am able to give to them , thanks to donors like you.

The covid19 pandemic has created a new way of teaching and learning. A document camera helps to provide students and therapists the ability to reach out and move the act of learning along.

    Again, thank you so much.”

  • Ergonomic Work Station

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Thank you so much for your donation to my project. A working station is so important for our students. This station will be used for a standing station and for keyboarding using their ipads. Assorted seating standing is so important in a classroom. All children learn a different way and at different time. Setting a child up to be successful is important. Giving them choices to what works best for them builds strength and confidence in their own ability to complete a task.

The learning styles of children vary form child to child. Children need a good work space to be able to concentrate on what they are writing. Standing tables and workstations are a good choice .

Again, thank you for your donation, much appreciated”

  • Tie Dye Techniques - Teachable Moments: Teamwork, Thankfulness, Together

    Funded Apr 16, 2019

Sorry this is so late. I just want to thank you for your donations for last years tie dying. Our students were amazing. They practiced the technique of spiral tie dying. Researched for their power point presentation to the entire 4th grade classes. Presented their project. Finally, on tie dye day, were the experts and provided peer support to their fellow students. We had an amazing time. This project was so successful, we are again doing it this year for the entire school. Our experts will be helping again.!”

  • Sensory Movement to Engage Minds & Body

    Funded Jan 30, 2019

I just want to thank the donor's for this project. The Sensory Path is up and being used by the entire school! The students enjoy hopping and jumping. The smiles on their faces says it all. The Sensory Path is being used by students going to the rest room, walking in the hallway and by students who need a Brain Break from sitting. Sensory Paths provide movement breaks to help provide feedback to muscles and the brain. Studies have shown students require movement breaks to be able to attend and focus during a lesson or classroom activity.

I just want to again thank our donor's especially the Anonymous donor. You are truly amazing! You have provided an activity that is "FUN' being added into the school day for all the students. The path has made a difference, again thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy OT

  • Assorted Seating for Busy Bodies and Curious Minds.

    Funded Dec 21, 2018

Thank you for your donations. The wobble seats are in the classrooms and the seat trays are being trialed. So far the students and teachers love them. As an Occupational Therapist, I find it so important for a student to have access to assorted seating. Being ready to learn is so important. Studies show that changing position during lessons or writing can help maintain good focus and promote good quality work. Proper body mechanics are important for handwriting skills, attending and focusing. Having these tools available can make a difference in a child's ability to function during the school day. Again, thank you so much for donating to my project on Donor's Choose.”

    With gratitude,

  • ART & OT Using crafts and activities to promote learning.

    Funded Jun 28, 2017

We have started school and the students are excited. The projects will be starting shortly. The students will be utilizing each project in relation to ELA and social studies content. Art and OT works to create a project with purpose and meaning for each student. Many students who struggle never get to feel being proud and having accomplished an activity. Art projects provide motivation and a purpose for doing the activity. Students get positive feedback and feel that they can achieve success. Their work gets displayed and a feeling of being proud is reinforced. The activity reinforces many therapeutic skills that the student needs to achieve. Thank you to al the donors for choosing my project.”

  • ART & OT Tie Dying Madness

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I just want to thank you for your donation. The students in room 204 created a power point and trialed the tie dying. They created amazing designs. Then the students of room 204 presented their power point to the entire 4th grade class on June 19th to teach them the steps needed to make Spiral Tie Dye Tee-shirts. They also assisted their peers in the tie dye process. All the students had a great time. They all then wore their shirts to school on June 22nd.

Thank you again what a wonderful experience all the students had.

    Mrs. Murphy”

I am the school Occupational Therapist in a public school working with students and teachers in kindergarten through 5th grade. I work with students in special education and recently the entire classroom through the teacher using RtI (Response to Intervention.) All our students work very hard and try their very best. I would like to create a classroom tool to be used by teachers to help address fidgeting and fatigue especially of the hands and fingers. The tool is a bin of fidgets that allow the children to squish, squeeze and pull using their hands. This is fun and exciting for the child and at the same time increases strength in their hands to help with the fine motor activities required in a classroom setting. This also allows for appropriate hand movement or fidgeting for the restless child.
