My students love to read but get stuck with choosing the same old titles they always pick. Battle of the Books is a reading competition and incentive program that motivates students to read more and to select titles they would never normally pick up! To participate in Battle of the Books the students are required to read at least 5 books from a list of 20 for their age group. The students are then put on teams and work together to read all 20 books! After having a few months to read their books the students compete in a "battle" that is based on the knowledge of the books. With Battle of the Books the students branch out of their normal selection and read better quality books all while reading more! They love the variety and the competition gives them the motivation to do some extra reading! Having extra copies of the books for Battle of the Books is critical so that more students are able to access the books to participate.
