I have a class of 20 students. Although I teach at a school in which the teacher typically stays with their class, from first through eighth grade, this is my first year with them. They've had four previous teachers and all four were first time teachers in this class. Along with having so many new teachers over the years, last year a classmate passed away in a tragic car accident early in the school year. These things have contributed to their difficulty in mastering needed mathematics skills. This year, they have worked to catch up in their understanding of the various math concepts they need to know. There are even extra support people who work with these students to insure they understand the necessary concepts. They have made great progress but still need a lot of support.
