Bullying occurs in all schools, with all students--regardless of economic status or educational excellence. Therefore, my focus is more on the developmental stage of my students and how important it is to provide them tools they need to succeed in society. My classroom consists of 10 and 11 year-olds, who are just beginning to reach puberty. Generally, they are moody; sensitive; oppositional; they test limits; they are impulsive; rude; unaware; loves to argue; has difficulty with decision; are self-absorbed; they are at the height of cliques; they seek to belong; and they have extremes of emotion. These are all ingredients that easily mix into creating a disaster, or bullying. My students are dealing with a lot of emotion and already feel like they are alone in how they feel. They need direction, assistance, and encouragement to be brave. Classrooms should be a safe place for student to feel trust and a place to build self-esteem. This is a lot of work for 10 and 11 year- olds
