Bee Environmentally Aware
Funded Sep 26, 2016It is so important for my students to Bee Environmentally Aware, and this project is helping them do just that. The book, The Honey Makers is a fantastic nonfiction book filled with a lot of information on the important role that bees play in our environment. After reading the book, several students told me that are less afraid of bees now that they know so much about bees. I was happy to hear that. The Bee Bots are allowing my students to learn the valuable skill of coding. They are able to program the bot and then see their program come right to life. As they do this, students are needing to problem solve on the spot. They are realizing that a right turn instead of left turn was needed to complete the challenge. This instant feedback is helping my students become more excited about coding and how they can use it. We appreciate your generosity!”

Funded Sep 22, 2016Solar Power, Coding, and Protecting the Environment is a great project for my students to participate in! Through this project my students are able to learn more about coding and how we can use it to help us. When we first talked about the project, one of my students asked, "Is this like Scratch? I love using Scratch!" When he asked this, I was truly impressed. While some may feel elementary school is too young to learn about coding, I would tell them it is the perfect age! Our students have minds like sponges and they able to absorb and apply so much. I know these resources will be loved for many years to come!”

Funded Sep 9, 2016Target, what a gift you have provided my students! And the timing of the project is perfect. We are just about to read a Henry and Mudge story in our anthology, and so it was wonderful to be able to set it up with the original Henry and Mudge. Now students know how they became friends and can reference the original story with the one in the anthology. My students love the stools and look forward to when it is their day to use the stool. One great thing about the stools is that students can move quietly, but they don't disturb their neighbors. It is such a great way for wiggly second graders to get the movement they need. Thank you for your generous support of education and healthy living!”

Funded Sep 2, 2016The books in this project are fantastic! Thank you Target for providing my students with such rich reading materials. We have been connecting these books to our curriculum and learning more about nutrient-dense food. In our first anthology story, Dragon Gets By, Dragon is a very unhealthy shopper. We read The Fruits We Eat and The Vegetables We Eat and talked about how these should be a part of Dragon's diet and why. We are currently reading Mrs. Brown Went to Town and are looking forward to learning more about farming, pigs, and apple trees. We are also grateful for the Hokki stool and Kore wobble chair. These are a student favorite because movement is now built into times when students would otherwise be sitting. Thank you for your generous support of education and healthy living!”

Funded Sep 16, 2016Thank you Target! My students are really enjoying being able to Stand and Learn. They cheered when our stools arrived! The Kore Wobble stools are definitely a favorite among students. They love being able to wiggle while they work, and I love that the stools help keep them more focused on their work. The standing desk is popular. It has a swinging foot rest that allows the students to stay active, even when standing! We appreciate your generous support of education and are looking forward to using these resources for many years to come.”

Funded Aug 12, 2016Target, you are the best! Today we implemented my project, Soccer Rules, and we had the best PE! Thanks to your generous support we were able to set up 6 different soccer fields. The students were able to divide out by skill level and focus the level of play for each group. This meant that everyone was able to play soccer successfully and as we walked off the field I overheard several kids talking about how much they enjoyed PE today. I am excited to incorporate the books by Lauren Castillo into our read aloud time. These books are great conversation starters and have kids talking about the importance of a balanced diet and exercise. We appreciate the difference you are making in our learning.”

Funded Aug 5, 2016Target, these stools are such a gift! My students love having them in the classroom and each day they are excited to use the stools. As a teacher, I am thankful that my students are able to get their wiggles while we work! I had heard about the Kore Wobble chairs, but it wasn't until I had them in my classroom that I realized what a difference they make. My students are able to wiggle around without disturbing their neighbors and they are able to stay focused on their work. We appreciate your generous support of education and I know that these Kore Wobble chairs will be put to good use for many years to come.”

Funded Apr 22, 2016Sphero really is super! My students love having the opportunity to have robotics experiences in the classroom. They are becoming very good at programming Sphero to do what they want him to, and then they cheer when they are successful. Using Sphero provides a meaningful way for my students to apply their 21st century learning skills. They are collaborating, using their creativity, applying their critical thinking skills, and building a community of learners. They are helping each other overcome the programming obstacles they face and building upon each other's ideas. You know this project is having a positive impact on learning when several students say that they want to add Sphero to their birthday list! Thank you for generously supporting our classroom.”

Funded Apr 4, 2016What a wonderful project filled with such wonderful resources! My students are truly enjoying being nonfiction experts and learning more about how food goes from a farm to our table. Our brassica seeds are growing rapidly in our growing station, and the students are making great connections between the way crops grow on a farm and how they are growing in our classroom. Today we had a ladybug in our classroom and the kids were so excited because we had just finished the book on ladybugs. So far, The Fruits We Eat has been a favorite because students like to connect the classroom to their dining room table. As we learn about new fruits, a student will say, I've had that! And many say, I've never had that, but I'd like to try it. This project is helping my students depend their understanding of our curriculum and we appreciate your generous support.”

Inspiration and Imagination With Osmo
Funded Mar 9, 2016Thank you so much to the many generous donors who made this project possible! My students love having the Osmo in the classroom. Right now Newton is the favorite app. On this app you try and direct balls to hit the target. My students are still amazed that they can use their hand to interact with the screen. A close second is the Masterpiece app. Students are excited to try their hand at drawing and this app really makes the process simple. Everyone is happy with their final art. I want you to know that you are making a difference in our learning this year, and for that we are grateful.”
