  • Supplies to Connect to the Classroom

    Funded Nov 25, 2020

Thank you for providing our class with much needed supplies that make distance learning a little better. When each child has math manipulatives and ways to store them, learning is still fun and accessible for all. In second grade, adding three digit numbers and strengthening number sense are big goals. Playing cards and dice make it possible for kids to play games with each over Zoom. Now, no child will get left out when we "play" and learn about math.

When I handed out the backpacks filled with their new supplies, I could see their excitement! We unpacked the bags on Zoom and the kids just couldn't wait to start using their supplies. Thank you for giving us the tools to make learning fun!”

  • Art Brings Us Together

    Funded Nov 28, 2020

Thank you for the tempera paint cakes! I can't tell you how amazing it is to be able to teach an art lesson virtually! One of the hardest things about virtual learning is that students don't always have the necessary supplies to do art. With your support, each child got their own set of tempura paints and got to participate in our art lesson. We really felt like we were part of the same class because everyone was included. No one was left out. Thank you for giving us this opportunity. I know we will continue to use these paints throughout the entire school year.”

  • The Phantom Tollbooth for All

    Funded Nov 30, 2020

Thank you for your kindness and generosity! By giving our class these books, each student will have a copy and we can enjoy literature together. This year, our class is virtual and one of our biggest challenges is having access to physical books. I'm excited to start reading The Phantom Tollbooth because kids will have an opportunity to read offline.

I know the students will get lost in this fictional tale of adventure and wonder. Thank for helping my second graders fall in love with literature.”

  • Picture Perfect Moments

    Funded May 5, 2020

I cannot thank you enough for the art supplies. When our school suddenly went to an emergency distance learning module, none of us were prepared. It was a time of great uncertainty. As teachers, students, and families tried to find their way during the pandemic, the one thing that helped us all was trying to find a sense of normalcy. As a teacher of 2nd graders, that normalcy included art.

Art is a way for everyone to express themselves and their feelings. There was no better time to do art than the start of our quarantine. Being able to provide quality tools for each student was incredible. Not only did the kids finally have fun tools like Sharpies, watercolor sets, and sketchpads, they also had a chance to come back to their school to pick up their "Art Supply Bag". I was grateful to have a chance to wave to my students in person even if it was only for a minute.

Donors, I am truly grateful for your generosity and kindness.”

  • Heroes and Leaders

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

Thank you for funding this project! Our class loves to read and nothing is better than having a reading party! Thanks to you, our classroom library has more biographies about heroes and leaders.

Second graders learn about how people can inspire change, help others, or make great contributions in science. Books like the You Should Meet Collector's Set tell about women and men who broke barriers to accomplish their goals. When Thomas Edison Fed Someone Worms is a book from The Leaders Doing Headstands series and got the class cheering, "I want to read that!"

The clear shelves will help display our "Picture Books of the Week" and make finding a book easier for all. We are appreciative of your support. Thank you.”

  • Books and Art Go Together

    Funded Mar 6, 2020

Thank you for funding this project. We love to read! The students begged for a reading party as soon as we opened all the packages. The reason why this project is extra special is because the kids wrote me letters asking for many of these books. Some titles are so popular, they can't get them from the library. Often times, kids want to reread some of their favorite books, but they just aren't available.

With your donation, books like Dog Man and Narwhal and Jelly will be in our classroom library at all times. Thank you for your support.”

  • I See Me in Picture Books

    Funded Mar 3, 2020

Thank you for funding our I SEE ME IN PICTURE BOOKS project. When I revealed the books in class, kids could barely contain themselves because they could already see that some of the heroes featured in the books looked like them! During our first reading party, kids kept bringing their books up to me to share a fact about a hero or to tell me a recap of their new favorite book. It warms my heart to see this kind of reaction.

Each time I introduce a book to the class, I know that my students are learning to love books. Books are cherished and read over and over. One of the most popular books so far is Asian Americans Who Inspire Us. I hear kids make connections to their own families when they read it. They also love The Book of Mistakes since we spend time talking about having a growth mindset.

    Thank you for your support!”

  • Watercolor Crayons Are Cool

    Funded Jan 23, 2020

I am incredibly grateful to you for your support and generosity. When I told the class we were getting watercolor crayons and real watercolor paper, they cheered with joy. I taught a lesson on watercolor using printer paper and construction paper. They soon discovered how important it is to have the right materials.

The first time we had an art party using our new materials was exciting. Our artists became focused on creating an image and then painted to their heart's content. It was an absolute joy seeing them blend colors. No one complained about messing up and everyone just kept creating. None of this would be possible without donors like you. Thank you for helping us create art!”

  • Piggy Banks Make Cents

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

Thank you for funding our Piggy Bank Project! The students were thrilled to rip open the boxes and unpack the individually wrapped pigs! Bubble wrap and pieces of cardboard boxes were strewn all over the classroom! Our ongoing lessons in financial literacy about wants versus needs come up in all subject areas so I'm thrilled to be able to give the kids a personal piggy bank to take home. Former students often share that they still remember learning about money in second grade. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, each child this year will get to incorporate math with art and personalize a piggy bank.”

  • Financial Literacy with Picture Books

    Funded Sep 24, 2019

We can't thank you enough for your thoughtful contribution and support. Having a big box of picture books arrive gets everyone excited to read. Not only do kids get an opportunity to learn about financial literacy, but they get to learn by mixing art, math, and literacy!

One of the students' favorite books was Alexander, Who Used to Be Rich Last Saturday. It is about a boy and his brother who both got money from the grandparents. Alexander used his money to place bets that he could jump of the stoop and not fall. He bought new chewing gum when his ran out of flavor. At the end of the story, Alexander was no longer rich, but his brother had enough to buy something special. At first, the kids laughed and laughed because of Alexander's silliness. Then, students talked about wants and needs. They determined right away that Alexander bought too many wants and lost his money. The kids debated which purchases were sound. It was a joy listening to the impromptu discussion.

Thank you for your generosity, and we thank you for the picture books that allow us to have weekly picture book parties.”
