  • Citas Con Sabor a Cafe

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

I would like to thank you again for your great generosity. The resources donated are being used at our Newcomer Program-related events, activities and celebrations. Students were ecstatic when they saw all the resources and goodies for our program. They are eager to continue planning future events and inviting their families. They are constantly reminding each other of Citas con Sabor a Cafe and holding each other accountable for their commitment to attend and participate. We feel very blessed!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morales

  • Citas Con Sabor A Cafe

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Thank you for your generous donation towards our efforts to help meet the needs of our newcomers and their families. The donation will help us continue to have our 'Citas con Sabor a Cafe,' which aim to help both students and their families make connections and build community during thier acculturation or assimilation process here in the United States.

Both our students and their families have felt very fortunate to be part of a learning communitiy where they are valued and respected in such way that oppotunities like this one are being provided to make them feel like they belong and where they feel like they have something valuable to offer.

Our plan is to continue to promote community building and networking through our 'Citas con Sabor a Cafe.' We wish to continue to help both students and their families find a place where they feel listened to, valued and respected, but also a place where they feel empowered to be great advocates for themselves and/or their children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morales

  • Newcomer Program for English Learners

    Funded Sep 28, 2020

When the students first saw the materials, they were very excited to start using them. The challenges of remote/distant and in-person learning are huge; therefore, it is a big relief for them to know they will at least have various aspect that could potentially hinder their learning covered.

Many of our students are learning from home in spaces that are not necessarily conducive to learning; therefore, having lumbar spine support cushions, noise blocking headphones, stress balls, and computer mice is making their lives easier.

Students will continue to use these materials all throughout the duration of this pandemic and beyond both in school and at home. Thank you for making a different in our students' lives!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morales

  • 'Citas Con Sabor a Cafe'

    Funded Mar 27, 2020

Even though the school is still working on programming the computers, students are very excited to know they will have reliable technology to help them access the education they need and deserve during remote/distant learning. The unit of study they are about to finalize focuses on digital literacy and how to navigate the platforms the school is using to present and deliver instruction. Students are acquiring the knowledge and skills they need to be successful, independent learners.

Students absolutely loved the how elegant the laptop computers look and how sturdy they feel. They expressed they can't wait to start using them!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morales

  • Citas con Sabor a Cafe

    Funded Dec 10, 2019

I want to start off by saying, "Thank You" for your generous donation. Now, our team will not have to worry about the expenses of our beautiful monthly meetings with families. Also, we will be able to welcome them with more enthusiasm and certainty that we will have the basic resources that we need to try to meet some of their needs until almost the end of the school year.

Students were shocked to learn that you donated the entire cart. They were extremely happy and excited.

    With much appreciation,

    Mrs. Morales”

  • Citas Con Sabor a Café

    Funded Jun 11, 2019

I want to start by saying, THANK YOU! The coffee machine and coffee donated are being used for the families of newcomer English learners who attend our monthly "Citas con Sabor a Cafe" where they get informed and educated on topics related to our school community as well as about the resources and supports available to them. It is a time for both learning and socializing.

When students learned about the donation, they reacted with great excitement and couldn't wait for our first meeting! They would say things such as, "Mrs. Morales, I'm coming to the meeting" or "Mrs. Morales, I told my mom about it.

Our first "Citas con Sabor a Cafe" took place on October 24th. We had 11 parents/guardians attend together with their student and several students showed up by themselves. In comparison to last year where only 1 parent showed up to our first meeting, I would say we started off with a great turnout. This wouldn't have been possible without your help! Our upcoming "Citas con Sabor a Cafe" will be on November 21st and December 19th.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morales

The purpose of our "Citas con Sabor a Café" is to engage newcomer families in different aspects of our school community, using culturally responsive practices and communication, which include the use of their native language and cultural traditions. Another goal is to help newcomers and their families adjust to their new place by connecting them to different resources offered in our school and community. In our "Citas con Sabor a Café," we also seek feedback that would help us in our goal to build community and enhance students’ learning experiences. What do we do? We meet after school once a month. We offer an agenda that includes topics relevant to current school events, activities, and initiatives. Students and families have the opportunity to ask questions, give ideas, and connect with other families while--- they enjoy a cup of coffee and other goodies like pan sobao' with butter!!
