An Easel To Help Us Learn
Funded Dec 31, 2012I cannot express to you what an incredible difference your donation has made in my classroom this year! Faced with providing instruction to two grade levels in one classroom, I quickly discovered that the best way to help each group do their best was to instruct them separately on their own side of the classroom. The easel your donations provided has enabled me to do just that, with its wheels that allow me to position it exactly where it will be most visible and easily accessible to the group I'm working with at the time.
The easel is just the right height for my 2nd and 3rd grade students to come up and interact with the content, as when we are writing a collaborative story, or referring to charts and graphs attached to the easel with magnets. The students have engaged with their lessons so much more than when I was taping layers of chart papers to the cabinet doors!
The chart paper tablets have been an important resource also, not just for instruction, but also for the students to use in creating stories and projects, and for the 3rd graders to learn and practice cursive handwriting.
Our education and learning experiences have been enhanced by your generous donations, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us these materials!”

Funded May 13, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donations towards the iPod Touch and Anti-bullying literature for my class! I am so appreciative of the opportunity you have given my students to promote respect and teamwork, while working with fun new technologies.
Although we received the materials near the end of the school year, my Fifth Graders enjoyed using free apps on the iPod to study the 50 states and their capital cities and practice their math facts. I enjoyed reading some of the anti-bullying stories to them during the last weeks of school and sending them off to middle school with a more positive attitude and broader perspective.
This year I have a combination-grade classroom with Second and Third Graders. They have also enjoyed hearing the stories read to them and reading the stories to each other, as we used the materials to get our year off to a positive start and promote a respectful classroom environment. They have also teamed up to create video read-alouds of the stories using the iPod Touch, and project them using the classroom document camera for the whole class to enjoy! Thank you again for making all of this possible and bringing these wonderful and exciting materials to my classroom!”

Don't Be A Bully!
Funded Feb 6, 2012Thank you so much for your donations to my class' anti-bullying project. Of course my students were very excited about having access to a laptop for creating presentations, but I don't think they expected to be impacted so strongly. The book "Bullying in Schools" told stories that my students could relate to, and offered them realistic solutions to dealing with the bullying situations they face in their own lives.
After introducing the book to my students, they worked with partners on the laptop to create a brief presentation of their experiences with bullying, what they learned from the book and other related lessons about bullying, or what having a bully-free classroom means to them. They used the programs on the computer to create displays of anti-bullying messages, and then connected the laptop to our existing classroom projector in order to present their important messages to their classmates. Each group printed a bully-free classroom slogan for their classmates to sign, and posted the signs around the classroom.
I am so grateful for your generous donations because these materials are helping my students cope with a very real problem they face in our school and are likely to encounter again in the future. "Bullying in Schools" gives real accounts and helpful strategies that my students can use to combat bulling at our school, while the laptop gives my students a unique tool to share meaningful messages. Thank you for this important contribution to our classroom!”

Funded Jan 31, 2012I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your generous donations to my Digital Camera project. My students were thrilled when the cameras and photo printer arrived, and were very attentive as I explained about their use. The prospect of using the cameras and printer help motivate my students to focus on their goal and see their group projects through to the presentation stage.
We are using the cameras to record our groups at work and as we present our projects. I am teaching them how to zoom in and out to get the picture they want, and how to review and select their best pictures to print. They watch in awe as the printer runs their chosen photo through several times, adding a layer of each color with each pass, and then eagerly search out the best spot for their picture on the appropriate bulletin board. We also took a camera with us on our recent fieldtrip, and recorded several of the exciting exhibits we saw. I was able to put together a slideshow of our pictures to project on the board during Open House, which delighted everyone who attended! I hope to teach my students how to edit their photos and arrange them into slideshows in time for our end of the year celebrations.
My students and I are so grateful for your thoughtful donations every time we use our digital cameras and photo printer to capture and display the learning adventures that we are having. We truly appreciate your contribution to our classroom!”

Funded Jan 24, 2012I would like to express my appreciation to each of you for your generous donations to my Reading Club project. My students were so excited when the boxes of books arrived, and even those who avoid reading were eager to choose their first selection. They were so motivated to do the reading and keep up with their group, and they really enjoyed working in the small groups to read and discuss the literature they had selected.
It was such a joy for me to see my students engaged in what they had read and challenging each other to comprehend their stories more thoroughly, and on a deeper level by making inferences and looking for the story's theme. For our culminating project, each group worked together to create a Book Report poster detailing such elements as characters, setting, problem and solution, which they presented orally to the class. Now they are eager to begin with their next selection!
My students and I are well aware that without the sets of literature provided by your thoughtful donations, these activities would have not been as successful as they were. We truly appreciate your kindness and investment in our education.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Moogan
