Rooted in Reading
Funded Feb 16, 2019Thank you for your generosity. With your support I have seen students make so much growth in reading comprehension and writing. These mentor texts helped me make learning reading comprehension strategies more engaging and accessible for my students.
My students loved so many of these stories. Students would reference some of these books that we read months ago. They continued to talk about these stories and made connections to other stories we read. They analyzed and compared characters. They learned about story elements such as setting, problem and solution.
I cannot express how grateful we are for you generous donation. You have made our learning enjoyable and memorable. Thank you again for your support.”

Funded Oct 2, 2018My students and I were so excited that this project was funded. When we received the Daily Math Fluency Kit thanks to etaHand2Mind and Sonic Drive-In North Carolina, we were eager to dig in and get started. My students were curious about how we were going to be using the subitizing cards, the number path, and the rekenrek.
So that night I planned our first Daily Math Fluency lesson. We started with the dot cards. My students were not confident in explaining different ways with seeing the number of dots. After about one week of practice all of my students were more confident and were able to see many different combinations on the dot cards. We then moved into the ten frame cards and repeated the same pattern. After completing some of the ten frame cards, I saw improvement in my student's accuracy with basic math facts. We then tried the rekenrek, and this hands on tool helped my students who struggle the most. These students finally started seeing groups of 5 and 10. They also started seeing how to decompose and compose numbers in different ways. After that I introduced the Number Path. When using the number path lessons and the number path, my students were successful using the strategy of making a 10 to add and subtract.
We are looking forward to continuing these lessons and further developing our number sense.
I am thrilled to see the growth my students have already made using the Daily Math Fluency Kit every day. I can't wait to see how much they continue to progress in their flexibility with numbers and improving the way they use math strategies. Thank you again. Your generosity, thoughtfulness, and support of education is truly appreciated.”

Funded Feb 17, 2018It is with great appreciation that I submit this letter to you for your generosity. My students and I were so excited when we saw the TruBind Coil Binding Machine and plastic spines. We were eager to get started on writing our first book to publish for our classroom library.
The students were tasked with writing about what they wanted to be when they grow up. The students were more motivated to make their writing neat and interesting because they knew it would be put into a book and placed in our classroom library. After completing their writing, we used the TruBind Coil Binding Machine to bind their writing into a book and placed it in a special classroom author's book bin in our library. It was the first book checked out of the library and had a waiting list. The students were so proud and were eager to get started writing another book.
Again, thank you for your donation. I look forward to using the TruBind Coil Binding Machine for years to come. Your donation will have an impact for many years.”

Funded Oct 31, 2016We are so grateful that Chevron funded our project. We received so many great manipulatives to help us with our math. We are using all of these manipulatives to develop a conceptual understanding.
Students have been using the Cuisenaire Rods to improve our fact fluency to ten. Students are building ways to make different numbers with the Cuisenaire Rods. We have been using the dominoes and fact family triangles to practice the commutative property of addition. We have just begun using the geoboards during our geometry unit. Students are excited and engaged in their learning with all these hands-on manipulatives. With all this excitement we have used the Yacker Tracker to help us keep our voices at a reasonable decibel. We have been able to use the Cricuit to make charts and titles for bulletin boards that show our learning.
Thank you so much for supporting our classroom, and helping my students become mathematical engineers. It is so exciting to see students be flexible with numbers. They are building a conceptual understanding of numbers with all of these fantastic manipulatives that you gifted to our class.”

Staying Active During Indoor Recess
Funded Sep 2, 2016My first graders were so excited to see the orange Hokki Stools, Legos, Magna-Tiles, and Interlox that we received thanks to your generous donation. These items have made our classroom a more enjoyable and comfortable space.
The students have been enjoying the Hokki Stools. They love that they can wiggle while working. These Hokki Stools have helped students work for longer periods of time.
On the first rainy day we had, I put out the Legos, Magna-Tiles, and Interlox for students to stay active during recess. They built amazing structures and compared the structures. They tried to see which group could build the tallest tower. There was a lot of excitement and high energy when they were constructing with these hands-on building materials.
Thank you so much for supporting education.”

Funded Aug 12, 2016Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom! We have been using the Hokki Stools, playground balls, and jump ropes for several weeks and the students are loving all of it.
The students look forward to using the Hokki Stools in the classroom. They like that they can wiggle while they work. They can sit and work for longer periods of time, when they use the Hokki Stools. The Hokki Stools and Wobble Cushions have been a fantastic addition to our classroom.
We have been using the playground balls and jump ropes for PE. The students have been having a great time learning to bounce the balls to a partner and catch them. They are learning to play four square. It is nice to have the equipment to teach students these skills and to see the excitement and joy.
Thank you again for your donation.”

Funded Oct 21, 2015This is a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to our classroom. Because of your company, we now have many math activities and Boogie Boards in our classroom.
My students are benefiting a great deal from these wonderful materials. With the Boogie Boards students are able to show their thinking during math problem solving and word work. We do not have to worry about dry erase markers drying out and using so much paper.
We love singing and dancing while learning to skip count. The wireless speaker is loud enough for all students to hear the music clearly. It is fantastic for the Kagan reading, writing, and problem solving CD's we listen to while we are working hard during math, reading, and writing.
Thank you again for your generous donation. We appreciate all that Chevron has done to support so many schools through Donor's Choose.”

Mathematicians in Need of Support!
Funded Nov 4, 2014Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. It is so appreciated!
My students are benefiting a great deal from these wonderful materials. They are so excited and engaged when it is their turn to use the ipads. They have been using them to help with their math fact fluency. The Flip-It Addition game has helped my students become more flexible with their thinking about numbers. The children are having a great time building with the Magna-Tiles and wooden blocks. After they build, they enjoy comparing their structures with their classmates.
Thank you for all the learning, excitement, and joy you have given to our class by being so generous.”

iPads For Fabulous First Graders
Funded Nov 1, 2013Thank you so much for your incredibly generous contribution to my classroom. My students were so excited and eager to get their hands on our iPads.
We are learning to use our iPads in the classroom to support math standards and reading standards. My students are more motivated to read in order to complete Accelerated Reader Quizzes on the iPads. We are also looking forward to using them during small group instruction to show what students know without using more paper.
I enjoy utilizing the materials and teaching my students to use them independently as well. I love watching my students enthusiasm for math and reading grow. Thank you so much for caring and investing in our children's education.”
