We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. - Walt Disney Igniting a spark for learning in our students is imperative to their success as they grow and learn. As students work together in pairs or small groups, they learn to collaborate and cooperate as they construct new knowledge together. This project focuses on my students being able to use new and innovative materials to create structures and buildings during STEM time in the classroom. Being able to use a variety of interesting and colorful materials will inspire them to build new and different things and will ignite their curiosity as they construct with their new STEM materials. Students with cognitive challenges learn best with hands-on materials that they can experiment with. They learn cause and effect, learn to try again if something isn’t working for them, and they increase their thinking and fine motor skills while creating and building. Having STEM construction materials will open up a whole new world for them, creating curiosity as they cooperatively construct new things.
