Cozy Carpet
Funded Jul 28, 2022Thank you so much for helping us get a new "Cozy Carpet" in our classroom this year. This carpet has allowed us, to build a strong sense of community in the classroom. We are able to sit by other children, share thought and ideas, and work together on classroom activities. We have lots of times where we are able to turn and talk about certain questions with our friends sitting beside, in front of, or behind us. I am amazed at the conversations and ideas that come out of something as simple as 2-3 six year-olds talking through a question or problem on a carpet.
Many of the children in the classroom this year have never been in a classroom with a carpet (COVID) and when they walked into my classroom this year with this huge colorful carpet, they were so excited. They talked about all the different colors they saw on the carpet and how pretty it looked. It did take a couple of days to get their attention off the new rug and onto instruction, but it was so worth it.
Thank you so much for helping me out in my classroom, contributing, and investing in the education of children who many of you don't even know. Your love and kindness does not go unnoticed.”

Safe Seats for School!
Funded Aug 4, 2020Thank you so much for helping us stay organized during this crazy year. Since we can not share any materials and we don't have desks with storage built in, these seat sacks were really needed. The children were having to go to their already stuffed cubby to get the materials they needed for everyday lessons. These allowed the children to get the materials needed quickly since they are attached to their seat.
I put the empty seat sacks on the back of their chairs one afternoon after they left. When they walked into the classroom the next morning, their eyes lit up. There were many questions like; Can we put our stuff in there? Where did these come from? Who gave us these? etc.
Being organized and having all the required materials makes a classroom run smoothly. When the children don't have all their materials readily available, there are lots of questions, confusion, and noise. I want to thank each of you who helped me and my children be successful this year.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Tyson Foods and 3 other donors.EEEK!!! We need MICE, computer mice that is.
Funded Nov 12, 2018By funding this project, my students are able to feel successful in doing various tasks on their Chromebooks. In this new age, technology is everywhere, but we are still learning how it works in First Grade. We do many activities that require the students to drag and drop items in the correct place (which was VERY difficult for them). Having these new mice to use on the Chromebooks has made something that should be fun but hasn't been because it was too hard, so much fun that they don't want to get off them!
The kids love that they are able to quickly click on something and not have to remember to click and drag their finger at the same time. The have a bigger area that they can maneuver around with instead of the small track pad (you have to remember we are still little and still working on many fine motor skills).
When I look out into the room now when they are working on their Chromebooks, I see all smiles. I have heard several of the kids saying things like "Look, Mrs. Meeks I can do it!" and "Look, it works!". I have a couple of students who have had no exposure to computers yet and with just the track pad, they gave up on just about every task I assigned them, but not anymore. They are doing the assignments, enjoying them, and learning!
Thank you so much for helping my kids be successful in the classroom. By helping me, you are helping shape our future. My kids know that they are loved by so many other people because you reached out and cared and loved for them just as I do and we all appreciate you so much!”

Mrs. Meeks
