This project will allow students to experience chicks hatching, growing and laying eggs, as well as learning about costs and profits.
We would start by getting local fertilized chicken eggs and incubating them in the classroom. After they hatch, we would be able to keep them in the classroom to watch growth. Students would also learn about taking care of an animal. When the chicks are big enough, we would put them in a coop that will be installed on the edge of the playground. When the chickens start laying eggs, we could start selling the eggs to other teachers and community members. We would do a lesson about cost and profits with our eggs and cost of feed.
As a teacher, I have set up a YouTube channel and would like to use the webcam so that students could watch the eggs or chicks even if from home, whatever the reason may be for not being in the classroom.
