My students must keep up with the ever-demanding English/Language Arts standards, and that can be hard to to in a 45 minute class period.
I plan to introduce Student Led Learning Centers to my students where we will be working on several different topics all at once.
With the materials requested, I will be able to effectively organize each station with the materials and directions that students will need. After teaching students how to interact and complete each station, students will work on completing these stations with a few days of class. These stations would include vocabulary (Greek & Latin) stem work, nonfiction reading, fiction reading, writing, and independent practice (on student laptops). These stations have the opportunity to be more than just worksheets, and that's the exciting part! Students will be able to play vocabulary games, for example, while also working on other needed skills. The fantastic part about stations is that it allows me to see where students need the most help, and I am able to provide that in a 1-1 or small group within the stations. This way, every student is getting what they need instead of the entire class doing the same activity everyday.
The materials that I have requested would allow me to have baskets ready for each station's materials along with a folder that has reminder directions and any handouts needed. Students will know which station they will be at by utilizing the pocket chart where it will have station names and student names displayed. After stations are finished, I will be able to store them in the project cases so that I can build upon them each year instead of recreating materials.
