Tackling Both: Cold Weather and Testing Season!
Funded Jan 15, 2020Thank you for your donations!!! During the notorious cold and flu season, my students found the Kleenex, hand sanitizer and cleaning products very useful. One on my students had an idea of setting up 2 stations, so the students did not have to walk across the room every time they need something! (I love when my students develop ideas that better the classroom!)
The treats that were purchased were also greatly appreciated! Being a middle school student, my scholars take local and standardized assessments often. Whenever they take an assessment, they receive treats and I think it helps them stay focused on what they are doing instead of rushing to be done!
When the students first saw the materials, they were excited! When the items arrive, I wait for my students are in the classroom before the packages are opened. I allow the students to open the packages and they pull everything out, especially knowing that the things are for them!
Again, thank you all for your generous contributions! It is always a great feeling to receive needed supplies and materials, but it is an amazing feeling to know that there are other people in the world that cares enough about them to help out!”

Help Us Hear With Headphones!
Funded May 8, 2019Thank you so much for your contributions that has allowed our class to receive these headphones. Part of our school's curriculum includes an online curriculum called iReady. During this iReady time, the students will watch and interact with the videos on a certain topic. We use iReady everyday. These headphones help the students learn by giving them the ability to hear the lessons.
The most exciting thing about the headphones is how comfortable the cushions are for their ears. The students were worried that the headphones would be too uncomfortable or small and that they would smash their ears. Luckily, these headphones are very comfortable for their head size, even with their creative hairstyles!
Before these headphones the students had to rely on their earbuds to listen to the audio. Most times the earbuds they had were cheaply made therefore the earbuds were consistently malfunctioning. Those students are grateful that they now have reliable headphones to use during iReady time that will allow them to really engage in the lessons”

Funded May 15, 2018My team and school would like to thank you so much for helping us meet our goal of obtaining pompoms and floor mats. The new pompoms will increase the school spirit and better motivate our girls to be 'real cheerleaders' (like competitive and high school cheerleaders). Before school ended, the Eagles Cheer Team started Conditioning Camp, which allows prospective girls to see what is expected for a cheerleader, and they were extremely excited to use the pompoms. The floor mats allowed the girls to safely practice their splits and tumbling.
When the materials first arrived, the girls had forgotten about Donor's Choose and were confused about the packages. Once they were opened, they were very happy and could not wait to touch the items. Originally, they thought the pompoms were small, until they shook them, once they started shaking them their entire face lit up!
Since the year just started, the Eagles Cheer Team hopes to host try-outs and get a team of dedicated and talented young girls. This team is not just an outlet for the girls to stay in physical shape, but it teaches teamwork and leadership skills. Thank you again Donors and Dick's Sporting Goods for helping the Eagles Team.”

Funded Jun 6, 2017Our class is extremely grateful for your donations! Our school used blended learning to target different our different learners. The games are used in one of our small group rotations, where they are able to independently reinforce their skills. We also use the games if the students earn Reward Time. Students are able to choose a game and use their math skills and compete with their classmates.
The students were surprised that there are people that do not know them that are willing to donate money for their class. The class filled with smiles when they learned that the games were for them to use and learn. Having different methods of learning and reviewing allowed the students to want to learn new things so they will have the knowledge to play the games and win.
The next steps for my students is to allow them to preview the curriculum for the next concepts in math and science to see what materials they think we may need. It is important for my students to have an input in what supplies come into the classroom because it teaches them accountability. My students are interested in exploring science concepts through experiments and projects, instead of setting up the projects for them, they will need to research their own projects for exploration.
Again, thank you, from the 5th grade at A.L. Holmes Academy of Blended Learning for your donation and the message that these students are important!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. May
