Our school is situated in a lively community which is within walking distance of our school. By leaving our campus to learn more about ourselves, and our community, we have been able to create learning that is applicable and memorable. While we were able to do research together to create ou own school wide post office, after being inspired by a trip to our nearby post office, students didn't have a chance to really dig deeper into the aspects that inspired them. Having a smart board is great, but it doesn't lend itself to smaller group learning and research. Another obstacle we face is the weather, which can create huge delays in our exploration as the seasons meander on. Utilizing boots and ponchos will ensure that weather does not interrupt or exploration; our tablets will allow us to see beyond our walking paths to discover new learning. Once we are able to explore when the need arises, we can form smaller learning communities within our room so that all students will have a chance to delve into their interests and gain deeper insight and learning. Our tablets will give us the ability to reach all levels of learning within the class and enable all of the learners to truly engage in the community.
