Help Our Art Room
Funded Nov 2, 2013I want to personally thank you for your generous donations that allowed for us to get the supplies we needed to move forward with our projects. We have created beautiful handmade books using the supplies, and will be able to create drawings and other kinds of artwork, through the month of June.
Not only did this project boost my teaching, it also boosted my students' learning. I taught them the ropes, so to speak, and they helped each other achieve success. Most importantly, this experience has taught us that there are people 'in our corner' who value the arts and education, and especially our country's greatest resource; our children.”

Funded Sep 20, 2013Words can't express how delighted and grateful we were to receive the news that our proposal was funded. We are up to our second issue of Scholastic Art, and we have two big posters to put up in our room, and lots of artists that we have referenced, like Matisse, Picasso and Magritte. Additionally, the magazines have proved to be an excellent resource for project ideas and art-based reading passages, which are directly aligned with the Common Core Learning Standards.
We are using the magazines for discussions (like the Art Debate section of each issue), looking at color reproductions, and even homework. The best thing about the magazines is that we can use them again and again... I plan to use them for Art II, our Spring Semester course, with a new set of students.
The subscription comes with an online resource that we can use in class and out of class. There are videos, instructionals, tutorials and printable worksheets. I am so happy to have this subscription, as we don't have textbooks. Everything I teach is from my own research, which is fine, but having full color issues is fantastic and really interests the students. They love to look at paintings and read about the artists who create them.
Again, our sincerest thanks for all of your generosity.”

Funded Nov 5, 2011We are grateful and humbled by your generosity. As a teacher, it makes me feel validated and supported. My students learn that there are people out there who support the arts and education, but also the concept of giving. The oil pastels you have helped to provide have given them the opportunity to put techniques like blending, shading and color theory into practice.
The students enjoy working with this medium, and have requested that we do another project with them. I am happy to say that we will be able to use the pastels again for another project this month. Without your help, we would have had to continue the theory without using supplies, which is what most art classes do when there is no budget for the year. It's something that can be done, but when you learn by doing, you retain more information and gain experience.
Thank you for providing us with the experience!!”

Mrs. L
A Place for Everything and Everything in Its Place
Funded Dec 6, 2011I would like to express my gratitude once again for your generous donation of the drying racks to our art room. I have been painting with the students daily ever since the racks were delivered! It is such a relief to all of us to know that their work will be organized, safe and ready to retrieve when it is dry. My students were touched by the donation, and have expressed gratitude of their own.
My students have received two gifts: one -- the drying racks, and two -- the realization that good people like you are out there to support the arts, which leads to their appreciation of the arts as well.
May your kindness be repaid to you many, many, many times over.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. L
We Desperately Need Basic Supplies!
Funded Mar 13, 2011My students and I are extremely grateful for the basic supplies you have donated. We were able to complete several projects throughout the last part of the school semester, thanks to you.
Since our budget has been frozen for the last two years, I have been focusing on back to basics types of projects: portraits, drawings and sculptures made with recycled materials. Our basic supplies had dwindled to the point where students had to share with each other. They didn't mind sharing, but there are so many in the classroom that it would often take a long time for them to get a turn. It could be frustrating!
Again, thank you for your generosity and care for our children.”

An Amazing Visual and Written Journey for Students!
Funded Dec 30, 2009I am absolutely floored by your generosity and commitment to the education of NYC youth. We would have not been able to afford a new class set of books if it weren't for you. This is a wonderful way to bring students to love reading.
As soon as the books arrived, I began to write lesson plans to guide the students in their reading. I was able to use vocabulary lessons, grammar lessons, plot, character and genre in my lessons. It was a very good way to reinforce the skills they are learning in their regular English classes. The students were a bit wary when they saw the size of the books, but were pleasantly surprised and appreciative when they began to read them.
As I thought, the book challenged and interested my classes, improved their vocabulary and spelling. After we finished reading Hugo, they begged me for more stories to read! I am proud to report that we've read 3 other titles since then, all borrowed or donated from kind people like you.
Once again, thank you for your donation!!”

Funded Dec 16, 2009I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for participating in this project, and for giving so generously. The packing tape you donated has helped to create some wonderful, exciting art! My students worked in groups of 3 or 4, and were able to work cooperatively with each other and come up with creative problem-solving. They created life-sized sculptures to represent the human body, but I think they came away with so much more than that.
We decided to display our sculptures in our classroom, and arranged the room like a gallery. We invited as many teachers and classes as was possible to come in and view the works of art. It was a fantastic close to their hard work and dedication, as well as an acknowledgment from their peers and teachers.
This was the final project for the semester, and we would have never been able to take part in it had it not been for you. There is no school budget for art supplies this year. Like one of the students said when I announced your donation, "Generosity to the rescue!"”

Drawing With a Model
Funded Nov 7, 2008I am most grateful for your generous donation! I am so excited about it that I had to thank you right away.
My students --both present and future-- will be able to feel like 'real artists' when they draw using the manikins as models!!
Once and again, sincerely -- thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. L
