Early Childhood Professional Development Part 2
Funded May 10, 2017Thank you for contributing to this project, which provided an extra day of professional development for me at the I Teach K! national conference. The conference was fantastic! I am a strong believer in continuing education for teachers. It is so important to keep abreast of new research, methods and trends in education. I owe it to my students to seek out professional development every year, so that I can be a better teacher for them. Unfortunately, my school district doesn't have funding for this type of national conference, and it is only with your generosity that I was able to afford to attend it.
I learned so much about the best methods to use in a class of young children. I can't wait to start the new year and utilize the new ideas and lessons I learned at the conference!
Thank you again for all that you do to support teachers and students. You are awesome!”

Extraodinary Things are Happening at ISTE 2017!
Funded Feb 11, 2017Thank you for contributing to my teacher professional development project! Thanks to your generosity, I was able to attend the International Society for Technology in Education -
ISTE- annual conference in San Antonio, Texas. This was such an amazing, educational, enlightening, and HUGH conference! Thousands of teachers from all over the country, and even those from other countries, were in attendance. I was able to participate in ed talks, lectures, group discussions and hands-on learning classes to expand my knowledge about current and future ways of using technology to enhance student learning and creativity.
All the important companies and technology leaders were in attendance, including Microsoft, Apple, Google, plus hundreds of others. It was exciting being able to see product demonstrations and learn how to better use the technology I have available in my classroom. Having attended the conference, I feel more confident as I approach the new school year. I will plan activities and lessons around many of the new things I learned at ISTE. Thank you again for helping me to improve my skills and become a better teacher!”

Burlington to the Rescue!
Funded Mar 29, 2017What a thrill it was for me to open my email and find a letter from DonorsChoose.org telling me that our request for backpacks had been funded! The project was on its very last day, so I had all but given up hope that it would receive enough donations before it expired. We are so thankful to you for coming to the rescue!
Your generous donations have provided new, large and durable backpacks for my class. The children were so excited when the backpacks started arriving at school! The Jansport backpacks are very colorful and appealing, and are large enough to hold jackets, lunch boxes, supplies, and homework. Jansport backpacks are known to endure the roughness of young children that love to toss them in the air and drag them on the ground. These backpacks will last a long time. Since many of the children come from two parent households, or come from households where both parents work, backpacks are a necessity as they go from place to place throughout the day.
Thank you again for your generosity, and the kindness you have shown in choosing our classroom to support. You are awesome!”

Funded Mar 29, 2017Thank you so very much for your contributions to my classroom! Thanks to you, my students now have a variety of materials including butterfly larvae, fabric paint, literature, Let's Find Out weekly magazine subscriptions, fabric markers, HeidiSongs Nursery Rhymes cd and a Wiggles hand puppet.
We are using these materials daily to make learning interesting and fun. With these items, we are able to incorporate art and music into our core science, social studies, math and language arts curriculum. The magazines will be used to research topical themes for social studies, science and math. The puppet and nursery rhymes cd are being used to motivate students to play with language and sounds. The paint and markers enable the children to be creative in expressing what they have learned. The literature is bright and colorful, and includes well known fiction and nonfiction stories on a variety of topics.
Thank you again for your generous donations! The children and I are so grateful for your help.”

Funded Feb 10, 2017Thank you again for your donations to my classroom. You have generously provided my students with an iPad and accessories that we will use to develop financial literacy. With your support we are able to provide the materials needed for an enriching and challenging curriculum.
The children will be able to work on applications that strengthen numeracy skills such as number names and values, counting, addition and subtraction. These are the beginning blocks to financial literacy that my five year olds need to learn. We will also work on money names and values, and the importance of spending what we have wisely.
We have added the iPad to a center with other iPads so that a group of children can work together. The children were so excited to see the new technology and to learn that donors such as you cared about their education.
Thank you again for your support of our classroom!”

Funded Mar 14, 2017Thank you for contributing to our classroom! Your donations have provided water and personal hygiene items such as soap, tissues, baby wipes, band aids and paper towels. These items will go a long way towards keeping my students hydrated, clean, and healthy.
Essential items such as these are so important. When children aren't feeling well they miss school. Even those that make it to school find it difficult to concentrate when they aren't feeling their best. I am so grateful to you for caring enough to help supply us with these items.
Thank you again for your kindness to my students,”

Funded Nov 8, 2016Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom! Through your help, my students have been able to integrate art into our daily curriculum with new books and art supplies. They have been painting, drawing, and creating collages to show what they have been learning in their core subjects.
The children were so excited to see the new supplies! We put them to use right away in our classroom art box. This is a center where the children can go each day and be creative. They have been putting together creative books with pictures of the things we have been learning about in school.
We will continue to use art, and our new art supplies, to express learning in the areas of science, social studies, and other subjects. Art is fun, and through art activities I can motivate my little learners to engage in all areas of the curriculum. Thank you again for your support. With the kindness of donors such as you, we can provide the best for our students.”

Funded Oct 3, 2016I am writing to update you on the completion of this project and to tell you what a wonderful learning experience this was for my students! Children's author Alexis O'Neill came to visit our school, providing two student assemblies and two writing workshops for the students. Through these assemblies and workshops, students learned many interesting things about the process of writing and illustrating stories, and the process of becoming an author.
Ms. O'Neill shared interesting stories about her childhood and her experiences growing up that led her to becoming an author. She also read some of her stories to the students, and some of the students were able to act out the stories as part of the assembly. It was great!
Our students learned a lot about the writing process through the writers' workshops. They may even become writers when they grow up, just like Alexis O'Neill! Even the teachers said they learned new things about the writing process.
Thank you again for your generosity, and for helping to bring this author visit to our students. You are the best!”

Read Across America
Funded Jan 30, 2017Thank you for helping to provide books for my students! This class set of books by author Alexis O'Neill will provide hours of reading practice to help my class of learners to become better readers and to learn to love to read! Providing enjoyable reading material is a great way to motivate students and help them to see that learning to read is important.
We are very excited about our upcoming assembly with author Alexis O'Neill. The students will share these books with their families, giving the parents a chance to participate in the experience.
Thank you again for your financial support to this project. You are the best!”

TKs Down on the Farm
Funded Aug 25, 2016Thank you for providing the funds to take my students to Underwood Farms! We had such a great time. For most of the children, this was their first adventure riding on a school bus and taking a class trip. They were so excited!
Once we arrived at the farm we listened to an educational talk by the farmer, in which he brought out farm animals such as a pony, hens, goats, sheep and other animals. This was such a treat for my students. They learned so much about the animals and why they are important to the farmer.
Next, we toured the farm on a tractor pulled wagon. The fields were full and ready for harvest. Sunflowers, squash, and pumpkins were plentiful. Everyone received their own pumpkin to take home. Before we left, we were able to feed oats to the animals in their pens.
Your generosity made this wonderful learning opportunity possible! On behalf of my students and I, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”
