  • ETK Stays Warm and Comfortable During Distance Learning

    Funded Feb 4, 2021

Thank you for your incredible support! Your donations provided hooded sweatshirts for every student in my classroom! These children have been learning remotely all year, by logging into our daily Zoom meetings every morning, and doing both online activities and paper-pencil activities every day.

Our class is a special prekindergarten class offered to students from low income families. The children love their new sweatshirts! They are so warm and comfortable. Each sweatshirt has our school name and a picture of Mighty the Mustang, our school mascot. Feeling warm and comfortable is one less worry for my students now, because of you.

Thank you again for the kindness you have shown to my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lacour

  • ETK Zooms Away Part 2

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you so much for the incredible donation of an iPad, keyboard, and iPad pencil! These resources are being used daily to provide live instruction to my students.

When the pandemic hit and it became necessary to close school facilities, remote instruction became the needed method to continue providing instruction. Unfortunately, schools were not prepared for this. The teacher laptops we had were old and slow, and made it difficult to share screens, show instructional videos, and navigate all that was needed to continue lessons via video conferencing.

This updated technology has made a huge difference! My students are able to see and their teacher in real time, even though they are miles away in their homes. Instructional resources such as websites and videos can be accessed or viewed together. Being a faster device, the iPad also helps to prevent distractions and loss of attention that was happening when we were using the older, slower technology.

Thank you again for your generous contributions. Thank you for coming to our rescue!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lacour

  • Two Screens for Teachers

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you for your gift of a second monitor for distance learning. It has been an incredible boost to our Zoom class! Before, my poor students watched as I tried to maneuver the "floating controls" of the Zoom session, open and close tabs and videos, all while trying to make sure they were following along with the lesson. What a juggling act! Not to mention, it really hinders continuity during lessons.

Having a second monitor has made things run so much smoother during virtual class. I can now see all my students on one monitor, while seeing our Google slides, videos, learning documents, and anything else we are doing during class on the second monitor. It has been wonderful!

The second monitor enables more attention to each individual student, which means more learning and greater achievement as well. Thank you again for this incredible gift!”

  • TK Winter Fun

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you for your incredible donations to our classroom! My students LOVED their bag of distance learning materials, snacks, and items for winter fun!

Not being able to go to school, or to the park, or even to have playdates with your friends is no fun. Distance learning hasn't been easy for my four year old's, who have a hard time understanding why they have to stay home and inside glued to their iPads.

Unfortunately, here in Los Angeles, our numbers of Covid cases continue to remain too high to return to in-person learning. In fact, earlier today I received an email letting me know that one of my students, along with his family, have been diagnosed with Covid. This student was not feeling well enough to come to our Zoom class.

Your donations helped to brighten our situation by providing games, crafts, toys, watercolors, and lots of snacks! These items were placed in brightly decorated bags, and handed out before our winter break. The children loved everything!

Thank you again for your generosity and for the kindness you have shown to our class. We are so grateful to have donors such as yourselves to assist in making things better for the children.”

  • ETK Zooms Away!

    Funded Aug 20, 2020

Thank you so much for your gift of a webcam and ring light! With these items, I have been able to meet with my students daily for our distance learning class on Zoom. It's been a great comfort to know that I am able to do this, and that my students will have the best experience possible, all thanks to your generous donations!

Before receiving the webcam and ring light, we were making do with an older laptop with a built-in camera. While it got us through the first few weeks, it was definitely lacking in the visual experience, and frequently freezing up on us as we tried to learn. With little children, visual quality is so important to keeping their attention and helping motivate them to learn. This webcam and light have made a huge difference in the overall experience!

Unfortunately, here in the Los Angeles area we have not been able to return to in-person learning since going to distance learning last March. It just hasn't been safe enough. Even this morning, I received an email that one of our students had been diagnosed with Covid and was not feeling well enough to come to class. My students and I are so grateful to you for helping us make the best of distance learning. Thank you again for all your help. You are awesome!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lacour

  • Classroom Basics for Safety and Learning

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

Thank you for your generous gift of hand sanitizer, markers, batteries, thermometer, and other essential items for our classroom. Here in Los Angeles, the "epicenter" of Covid in our country, schools have not been able to open since the pandemic began. Our numbers of Covid cases continue to be too high for us to safely reopen for in-person learning. In fact, when I checked my email this morning, I found an email from a parent telling me that her child (my student), and the whole family had Covid and that he wasn't feeling well enough yet to do any schoolwork, or come to our Zoom class.

We look forward to the day when schools will be able to reopen for in-person learning. And when that day comes, we will have these supplies to help keep us safe and germ-free. I can't tell you how comforting it is to know that we will have some of the items we need, all thanks to your kindness.

Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. You are the best!”

  • TK Toner, Technology, and Tissues

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

Thank you for your generous support in helping us get this project funded! With your help, there are now lots of tissues waiting for my students when they come back to in-person school. During this time of pandemic, it is crucial that we have enough tissues for sneezes and coughs.

Your donations have also provided toner to help us with our printing needs. These items need to be restocked every year. The Osmo Base we are receiving will be used currently, during remote learning. This Osmo is used with an iPad to project images of the books that we are reading, workbooks, manipulatives, and other items for the children to see at home. It has been a wonderful boost to our Zoom sessions!

Thank you again for all your help in providing these supplies. You are the best!”

  • A Variety of Items for TK

    Funded May 5, 2020

I am writing to thank you for the kindness you have shown to my students and myself through your donations to this project!

Last March, we were shocked when school closed. We were told it would be for just 2 weeks. Even last spring when this project was funded, we believed 100% that we would be back to in-person learning by now. Never would I have thought we would still be in distance learning mode.

We fully expect to return to in-person learning sometime this year. It is comforting to know that we will have a good supply of cleaning wipes, paper towels, and tissues waiting for us at school. We will also have some wonderful incentives including stickers and small toys for our prize box, which will motivate the children to always do their best work. Thank you again for your generosity. You are awesome!”

  • A Variety of Items for TK

    Funded May 28, 2020

Thank you for your generosity towards our classroom! At the time our project was funded, we believed by this time we would be back at school with in-person learning. We never thought school would still be closed once the new year began.

While we are currently still doing distance learning, we are anticipating returning to school for in-person learning. The items provided through your donations will help us stay safe and sanitary, and hopefully, keep the virus away. The items are there and waiting for my students to return. It gives me peace of mine to know that when the day comes for us to return we won't have to worry about running out of personal protective items to keep us all safe and healthy.

Thank you again for your support!”

  • America's Teaching Zoo, Here We Come!

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

I am writing to thank you for your incredible support of our classroom! We were all set to take our class trip to America's Teaching Zoo last spring. We had the venue and buses scheduled, the permission slips signed, and the park reserved for our picnic after the zoo visit. And then, in March, we found out the school was closing and all class trips were canceled. Even now, we are still doing distance learning without the option of taking any trips.

Not wanting to give up our unit study on wild animals, we opted to do a virtual trip using the Wide Open Classroom website, where you can view wildlife through live cameras in different parts of the world. I prepared materials bags with markers, paper, and other art supplies, which were used to draw the animals we learned about. Every student also received a pair of headphones. The district provided iPads, but this item was necessary and needed for our distance learning and virtual trips. Without your support, this would not have been possible. Thank you again for your donation. You are the best!”
