  • Handwriting Without TK Tears

    Funded Mar 14, 2016

    Dear Donors:

Thank you for providing resources for our Handwriting Without Tears program. This is a wonderful program developed by an occupational therapist, to teach young children how to properly grip pencils and print letters and words. It contains many activities and lessons so that children understand how to form letters and why many rules of print exist.

I have used it with my transitional kindergarten students for many years. When they go on to kindergarten the next year, their teachers praise how well they can write. I wish every 4 year old had the opportunity to learn handwriting this way.

Your donations have provided math books, alphabet books, pencils, crayons, and language arts books for our class. Unfortunately, this is considered an extra program for my class and is not one that our school district will pay for. That is why I am so excited and thankful to have supporters like you to help bring these supplies to my students. In addition, your support of this project also provided wonderful HeidiSongs Musical Math DVDs. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lacour

  • Help Us Hear In The Computer Lab -Part 2

    Funded Mar 10, 2016

    To The Wonderful Donors:

Thank you for helping to stock our computer lab with enough earphones for every child. Without the use of earphones, it would be impossible to utilize the lab. The noise from every computer running simultaneously would make it impossible to concentrate.

Earphones are an expensive component of classroom technology because even with careful care, they don't last too long. There are so many things that can go wrong and make them unusable. They need replacing often, but they are very expensive when you take into account the number of earphones needed in the computer lab and all the classrooms at school. Many students bring their own from home, but there are many that cannot.

On behalf of the students, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to you, for contributing to this project. Through your help, we can maintain another year of technology access to our students. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lacour

  • Active Play for Little Learners

    Funded Mar 20, 2016

Thank you for the wonderful new play equipment! Thanks to you, my students are currently enjoying new jump-ropes, balls, ring toss games, Pogo stick jumpers, balance balls, and other play equipment, including a new tricycle! What a great way for them to get exercise throughout the day.

Outdoor play is so important for 5 year olds. They are developing gross motor skills, balance, strength and stamina in a fun way. Most of our school budgets go to academic supports, but play and exercise is vital to living a healthy life. We appreciate your help in bringing this awesome equipment to our kindergarten play yard.

Your contributions have made this the #BestSchoolDay for my students!”

  • Getting Artful with the Humanities

    Funded Dec 8, 2015

Thanks to all the kind and generous donors that contributed to this project! Your donations have provided many useful and wonderful resources to our classroom. These resources will make our classroom environment stir the imaginations and curiosity of my students.

The Scholastic magazines are such a great resource for nonfiction reading material. Current events relating to science, social studies, art and other areas are there for the students to read and think about.

The classroom subscription to BrainPop Jr. will also be very informative. The children listen along with Moby and Annie as they learn about holidays, diverse cultures, plants, animals and many other topics. They can then use the paintbrushes and other classroom materials to create artwork in response to what they have learned.

The classroom carpet will be a place to gather together to listen, learn and talk about the many things we have learned.

Thank you again for caring about my students and our classroom. With your contributions, you have helped to empower my students through art!”

    With gratitude,

  • Magnet Mania!

    Funded Mar 10, 2016

Thank you for providing this wonderful magnet center for my students! This center will provide opportunities to create pictures, experience force and motion, see how gears connect to make objects move, create and extend patterns, practice spelling and word making, and so much more!

The two sided magnet cart will accommodate 4-6 students at a time. By working together, they will be practicing sharing, taking turns, and teamwork as they utilize the various magnets at the center. Your donations have provided magnet shapes and gears to go along with the roller coaster set and letters we already have, to make this a well stocked magnet cart.

Thank you again for your generosity towards my classroom. Through the kindness of donors such as you, we are able to go beyond the minimum basics afforded with our school budget and offer extras such as this magnet center.”

  • TKs Down on the Farm

    Funded Sep 4, 2015

    Dear Donor,

Thank you for your generous donation to support my classroom of transitional kindergarteners! Your contribution enabled me to take my students to Underwood Family Farms, where we got to see an educational animal show, feed the animals, tour the farm on a tractor pulled wagon, and visit the pumpkin patch.

There is nothing better than a real world experience to teach students about life outside of school. We were able to make connections to our unit themes on domestic animals, food, and community workers. The children were full of wonder and excitement as they saw many live animals they had only ever seen in illustrations. They enjoyed listening to the animal sounds, and particularly enjoyed watching the animals come over and eat the oats we gave them.

Thank you again for your kindness and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lacour

  • TKs Learn to Write Right!

    Funded Oct 5, 2015

Thank you so much for your contributions to my classroom. Your donations have helped to fund many wonderful materials that will allow my students to complete the Handwriting Without Tears program this year. This program is a perfect fit for my transitional kindergartens, who struggle with the fine motor skills that are so important when learning to grip a pencil and print.

My students love the See and Stamp screens, Flip Crayons and Pencils for Little Hands. These items were developed with their age group and hand size in mind. With the number and handwriting workbooks, they will be printing numbers, letters, words, sentences and even stories in no time. This program is easy and calculated to make handwriting fun, rather than a chore as many other programs seem to feel to them.

Your kindness means so much to me. I am continually amazed at the generosity of the whole DonorsChoose community. Thank you again for your support!”

    With gratitude,

  • Financial Literacy Begins in Kindergarten!

    Funded Sep 30, 2015

Thank you so much for contributing an iPad to my classroom! This wonderful device will be used to help my students learn to count, add and subtract, and learn the value of money and saving through applications that are designed for their age level. These skills are the stepping stones to developing financial literacy in young learners.

My students were so excited to see the new iPad, and they have been using it every day during our workshop time. We have also used the iPad in association with the class Smart board, so that we can work on applications and visit websites all together.

iPad technology is easy for everyone, particularly young children, to learn and control. This makes it the perfect vehicle to use in a kindergarten classroom. My school district does not have the means to provide this technology to our class, so your generosity in contributing this resource means so much to us!”

  • Shark Tank Jr!

    Funded Jun 1, 2015

Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom! We are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in this effort to increase financial literacy by replicating the award winning "Shark Tank!: Entrepreneurship with New-to-Country Students". The students have been using the materials we received, and are motivated and excited about the learning and activities that are taking place in the classroom. Through dramatic play, involving the cleaning and snack supplies, students are learning the importance of "pleasing the customer" in order to be successful.

The iPad and apps are helping the children learn to count and save, and how things add up little by little. The sketch books and art supplies have been useful for fostering creativity as it relates to the business world. I can see a difference in the way the children interact with each other, both working together and competing to make the "best deal".

Thank you for your generosity and help in bringing these wonderful supplies to my students. Your support means the world to us!”

  • Quill to the Rescue IV

    Funded Aug 23, 2015

I am writing to let you know how pleased and excited I am with your support and contributions to my students. Thanks to you, we have received many items that will be of great use throughout the year. We have received Ziploc baggies, baby wipes, paper towels, printer ink, and lots of small prizes such as bracelets, toys, birthday crowns, and balls.

We are constantly in need of baby wipes and paper towels to wipe up our spills and keep our classroom neat and tidy. With many art projects, as well as eating breakfast every day in the classroom, our room needs wiping and cleaning several times a day. We are always running out of baby wipes and paper towels!

The printer ink allows us to print out worksheets, lessons, and student work. These can then be shared with the students' families. The Ziploc baggies are used to store flashcards, supplies, and even changes of clothes that are necessary for 4 and 5 year old children.

My students were so excited when we opened the box and pulled out all of the toys and prizes! They were placed in our "Treasure Box", and are being used as incentives to motivate the students to always do, and be, their best.

Your generosity makes our classroom a better place. Rather than worrying about not having enough materials, we can now focus on learning.

Thank you again for all your help!”

    With gratitude,
