Books and Materials for Math and Reading
Funded Oct 8, 2020The products I chose for this project were to help teach my students remotely. Some were for reproducing and sending to my students' home, some were for my use while on screen.
My students struggle with reading and math. The monkey number weights were to show them 1:1 correspondence of numbers as well a making sets to add up to a certain number. By using this online or eventually in person I can show my students what matches and what doesn't easily. If anything they can use the strategy of counting on when using the monkeys to balance a number.
My students are in both Kindergarten and 1st grade. I plan to use the product for both grade levels in my group work with the students. I am also sharing the items that can be copied and sent home with the general education teachers so all students have the items available to them while at home.”

Virtual Sight Word and Reading Lessons for My Special Students!
Funded May 8, 2020My students need to learn sight words in order to read more fluently. I have been working on a solid program for a few years. I needed a source that allowed reading practice using the sight words at varying levels of reading. These books have been a great addition to my program.
With remote learning going on it was difficult to hold up a large book or sentences for the students. These books are a perfect size to be able to hold up to the camera and for them to read the pages. The pictures are clear and bright for them to see. My students are loving the books.
Being able to have the fiction and non-fiction series as well as the folk and fairy tale set, I am able to work with my students in all the areas of reading they are taught in first grade. My students receiving special education are able to get the same areas of reading variety on their reading level.
Thank you so much for investing in my students' future.”

Funded Apr 11, 2019My students and I want to thank you for your generous donations for our project "Seeing Stars". We are using this program to learn how to read using symbol imagery and sensory-cognitive foundations of reading and spelling. Students are working with myself on their own path to reading using the various tools in many levels of reading to meet their needs and goals in reading and spelling/writing.
My students saw the box and were excited! "Are those for us? When are we starting?" were questions asked as we were exploring the contents. I also heard "whoa and cool"! They all got to see the cards, flip books, workbooks, pages, charts and more. I asked them, what do you think this will help us with? They shouted letters, reading! I said yes, we are going to learn letters and sounds which leads to reading!
I am a special education teacher who services both Kindergarten and first graders. The K students are starting this school year with small sessions using the consonant and vowel cards to learn the letters and sounds. The 1st graders, in small sessions, will be working with both those cards and the star words cards with increasing levels 1 through 5.In time they will lead to reading at various levels and with continued work in "Seeing Stars" they will increase their reading levels.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018My students and I were very excited when we got our package in the mail. We opened them and looked at the materials together. We started using our cards the next morning. A student who was especially excited asked me as soon as he came in if we were using the cards that day. I assured him we were and during our ELA/Reading block we sure did.
We worked on list A and the students enjoyed the movements we have to make with the words. The first 2 days I showed them the words, read the sentences and we all learned the moves. They repeated after me and got moving. Once they were comfortable, they were paired up to test each other with a handful of their words. They like having that power! They also practice reading sentences that came with a book that was part of the package.
Snap Words works in a way where the students can visually learn them by looking at the word and picture that goes with it. They then learn kinetically because there is a movement for each word that goes with the sentence which they say out loud. Working with students that have learning disabilities means you have to reach them different ways, this program teaches the same thing 3 ways-visually, kinetically, and auditorily. We will be working our way through all the lists (a total of 11) and making definite improvement in reading fluency in this very special classroom!”
