Bringing the Joy of Kindergarten Home
Funded Dec 1, 2020It is hard to find the words to express my heartfelt thanks for your generosity during this exceptionally difficult school year. Teaching Kindergarten virtually added a whole new set of obstacles. This project helped bring excitement and joy to the students at home.
All the materials for this project were sorted into individual goodie bags for each student. These materials supported reading, writing and math learning: capes and googly eye rings activated the students super reading powers; journals and rainbow pens inspired the young writers to collect ideas for stories; and pattern blocks, snap cubes, dice, and rekenreks supported all our math units!
A big part of Kindergarten is hands on learning and you made it happen for all my students with this gift. Thank you!”

Funded Nov 22, 2019My preschoolers are filled with excitement to learn how to identify and form letters. These Handwriting Without Tears materials are a boost to my teaching them these skills.
The teachers guide helps me quickly navigate the curriculum so I can target and teach to each students ability. The wood pieces set allows me to model the different types lines that come together to form of letters. The students then get to use the wood pieces to build letters, numbers and shapes!
The students are also improving their fine motor skills by putting a pencil to paper in the workbook. After all this practice, letters and numbers come to life in the classroom as the students begin writing their names, as well as reading and writing the names of their friends!!”

Growing Architects
Funded Aug 28, 2019The new rug in our Construction Zone has already created a new energy in the center. More students want to play there and there is more room for their ideas to come to life.
Block play is an essential part of our classroom and is key to my young students development. Playing independently or with others encourages planning, self-expression, mathematics, and problem solving.
We read the book "Not a Box" by Antoinette Portis and the excitement is building as we collect and add different size cardboard boxes to the area. Castles and skyscrapers are in the near future!”

Funded Mar 1, 2019Thank you for helping fund this project! The little yard is such an important part of our day and the addition of the soccer nets and the shed have already increased the quality of our outside play. The sports equipment allows the students to work on cooperative play and strengthen their gross motor skills. We can keep our pint sized sports equipment safe and at the ready with the new shed specifically designated for Pre-K. It is exciting to watch the children learn and have fun with these new items.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018My students were beyond excited to have new tricycles to play with in our little yard! The new tricycles added more sizes and one with two seats! The children are not only learning coordination and balance; but also, how to cooperate and share. Initially, my students would ride individually and play by themselves. While some still enjoy this solitary activity others are pushing each other and finding out which is the fastest trike. They are racing and playing taxi picking up friends and dropping them off wherever they're imagination takes them...South Street Seaport, home, NJ, or the moon! The new trikes are used every day and will continue to keep my little learners active and happy.”

Funded Dec 8, 2017Thank you for your generosity in supporting this project. Laminating pouches are not very glamorous, but essential to my classroom. The ability to laminate materials for literacy and math allows me to create and maintain a variety of educational games and activities that support the learning needs of my students. I've already put the new pouches to good use. The students are now using laminated pictures and sight words to make and read silly sentences, follow direction cards on how to build and describe a shapes, create an attendance chart and much, much more!”

Everything and the Kitchen Sink!
Funded Aug 23, 2017I am so excited to write this impact letter to you. The kitchen set is one of the most popular centers during Play Workshop. It is full everyday with other students waiting their turn to cook, shop, order and be served dinner at a restaurant or at the family table.
Play is an integral part of kindergarten and the kitchen set has transformed that play in my classroom. Our Play Workshop is the time when all students get to take part in self-initiated play. The students practice and learn a variety of skills that encourage confidence, imagination and independent. These pictures give you a sneak peak into the joy and creativity your generosity has given to me and my 23 students.”

Help! We Can't Sit Still!
Funded Apr 20, 2017I was so happy when I found out this project was funded. The students were so curious when the boxes arrived. Their curiosity quickly turned to excitement when we unpacked the boxes. The Back Jack chairs and wobble stools quickly became the most popular places to sit! Every student had the opportunity to test them out at different times during the day.
Kindergarteners are fully of energy and some students struggle to stay within the limits of their personal space. These Back Jack chairs and wobble stools are the perfect fit to help these students self-regulate their wiggles. These new seating options are improving our group learning time as well as helping students focus during independent work.
Thank you again for your generosity.”

Funded Oct 11, 2014Your generous donation to my classroom not only "dressed it up" but added independence and focus to my students' learning. The addition of the large and small boxes added color and function to our classroom library and Reading Workshop time. Each student selected a basket (or as we like to refer to them...book box) that they use daily to hold their reading books. These baskets helped developed student independence and organization which is a crucial kindergarten skill . Other baskets were used to organize leveled books to help students select appropriate books each week as well as serve as sturdy containers for science and math projects. So far this year the large baskets have been used as water stations for science experiments, collection baskets for items we found on nature walks, as well as hold math materials for group work. Thank you again for your kindness. We think of you every time we use them!”
