I teach second grade at a high poverty Title 1 school in Alabama where my classroom is filled with many active, fun loving seven and eight year olds who are eager to learn. Most of the students live at or below the poverty level and are from single parent households. Some are being raised by grandparents, aunts, uncles and even foster care as their parents are out of the picture. I am striving to provide a creative and caring learning environment for our students as well as implement creative learning activities that are based on real world situations. I want to provide my students with the knowledge to overcome any obstacle that may come their way and become self directed life-long learners. Even though we have a minimum amount of resources, we have fun learning.
